Melon Field 3 [Ammie]

Jul 08, 2008 23:47

On the far side of the island, quite a distance west from the town, there is a melon field. It lies between the edge of the forest and Memento Eden's largest lake, basking in the open sun. On occasion, water fowl waddle nearby, though the influx of visitors to the field seems to have scared them off. The soil nearby goes from hearty to moist and ( Read more... )

--Unbreakable melons? He was sick of hearing a bout this bullshit from everyone, like fruit was something out-of-this-world special. Gokudera would have to see it with his own eyes, to believe it.

And so he was. Nudging rainbow melon number 2 with the toe of his sneaker, he frowned slightly. Hell... weird colour for a 'melon'. So no one could get these things open, huh?

Che. Not that he had a diamond handy, but he was pretty sure that would work.

he was also pretty sure this would work; hoisting up the melon, he set it back down again, wedged between two rocks, to keep in in place. Smirked a little, and lit a small stick of dynamite, placing it on top of the melon before backing up, to watch the explosion with smug satisfaction.

It exploded, and the obligatory shield of dust formed around the spot. As it settled, however, the melon emerged perfect intact. In fact, if anything, the dynamite had blown off the mud accumulated on it, and it was shinier than ever.

Almost taunting, really.

...No way.

Hell.

Momentarily startled, Gokudera paused, then gave the melon a disgruntled look. Tch. Okay. Well anything melted, if it got hot enough. So, new plan.

Making a haphazard pile of sticks, he shoved them together with a few leaves, cracked open another stick, spraying the twigs with powdered sulfur. Set the irritating melon on top, lit a match, and set the thing ablaze, watching.

It burned about as well as ... well... not a melon, anyway. There were a few sparks as the soil was eaten up, but the melon stayed whole in the makeshift fire, glittering teasingly. It didn't even smell like roasted melon.

Godot strutted to Red 5 with a cup of coffee in hand. He took a deep sip from it before dramatically, forlornly pouring the scalding liquid over the melon.

The melon looked no more scalded than it had before, and the coffee absorbed into the thin layer of dirt covering it, running down into the soil.

Godot shook his head. What a waste. He stooped down, drawing a handkerchief out of his pocket and wiping the melon reasonably clean before picking it up and walking back to town for further experimentation.

And so, the red melon is toted to town with Godot.

Phoenix had come to check out the field and found himself picking up Shining Melon number 1.

"Interesting color..." he said, to no one in particular. Seeing others taking some, he decided to take it back to his apartment and attempt to slice it. He was sure Maya and Pearl would love it.

And so, the shining melon was taken home by Phoenix Wright.

The rumors had intrigued him quite a bit. Rollo wasn't one to go around having fun with melons for the heck of it, but he couldn't help but be a bit curious. After all, blue and red melons? No matter how little he could remember, he knew that those colors were not only rare, but unnatural.

And yet, they looked as though they had been grown quite naturally. And apparently, they couldn't be broken? It wasn't as though he wanted to eat the melons, but it would still be interesting to try and break one. So his first move was to pull out the knife from his front pocket that he had arrived here with. He wandered over to the strangely colored melons, leaned down, and tried to expertly work the sharp tip of the knife into the skin of shining melon #5.

However much he dug at it, the rind didn't give way. The knife's tip glided over the melon's skin as if the melon were made of platinum, not fruity goodness.

Well, that was strange...maybe the rumors had more truth to them than he first thought. He stood up, looking carefully at the knife, then back at the melon. Trying to carefully work his way in obviously wasn't working, so...

He pointed the tip of the knife downwards toward the melon, throwing it expertly--although he wasn't quite sure how, exactly--in hopes that the accelerated speed would make an impact.

The knife harmlessly bounced off the melon.

In spite of all things, Lina had found herself coming back a THIRD time, albeit to another field... but it was really only because she had heard it was actually possible, and her damn pride couldn't accept that someone else could do it (unless they had magic or super strength or a magic weapon or something)...

In any case, Lina stomped her foot down on Red Melon 4. "Alright, you jaw breaker, I've come for you." She declared with confidence that was almost certainly going to slowly degrade into frustration.

Perhaps the melons really were like jaw breakers, though for a superpowered audience.

It didn't react to the foot stomp.

That wasn't discouraging. Yet.

Lina stood up on top of the melon and jumped a few times on it, then kicked it, then brought her fists and elbows down on it before giving it a big head lock. Or bear hug, since it didn't really have a neck.
