Melon Field 3 [Ammie]

Jul 08, 2008 23:47

On the far side of the island, quite a distance west from the town, there is a melon field. It lies between the edge of the forest and Memento Eden's largest lake, basking in the open sun. On occasion, water fowl waddle nearby, though the influx of visitors to the field seems to have scared them off. The soil nearby goes from hearty to moist and ( Read more... )

Blech. How come all the fields gotta have trees 'round em? Beat was a city kid through and through, and did not like trees. At all. And this fruit looked weird, yo. The green ones was probably more normal. An' that wasn't sissy-think. That was SMARTS.

"'Kay, melons. Let's do this thing."

With that, he seized Green Melon #3, hurled it high in the air, and gave it a good, solid crack with the business end of his skateboard.

The green melon was knocked out of the air and thumped back on the ground, looking untouched. The skateboard seemed to take all the abuse in that encounter.

"Aw, maaaan, my deck! That's it, you goin' down!"

Beat proceeded to make with the physical violencing. Which, being the ever so creative fellow he was, consisted of punching it really hard, punching it harder, and picking it up, shouting at it, and headbutting it.

The melon looked as perfect as ever. And I'm sure a few blows to a head don't make much of a different to Beat.

Aono had always been fond of the colour blue. She thought melons sounded tasty too. So, combining these two thoughts, the white haired girl decided to give breaking open blue melon # 1 a try.

However, Aono really had no strength. But that wasn't going to stop her from trying.

A frown was on her face, a determined one, when she lifted her foot and brought it down on the melon, hoping to smash it with her foot. She had to start somewhere, right?

Her foot thumped down on the melon, but it didn't show any signs of injury.

(( Curse. Wrong melon.*bow bow* I'm sorry! ))

Aono paused. There were tears in her eyes but she swallowed them.
This time, she took a couple steps back.
"One two!" She started before running over and giving the melon a kick.

((Err, did you post the Nodoka one on accident? ^^;))

The melon rolled a bit from the force of the impact, but looked no different than it had before.

Hearing speculation about the blue melons responding to sound, Axel decided to try a different method in a different field. He arrived with his guitar in hands and, with no respect for the fact that he hadn't actually remembered how to use it, began playing and singing Johnny B. Goode loudly to the entire row.

His singing voice was fairly professional, but the guitar solo was a disaster.

The entire field was his audience, but the blue melons seemed the most alert, if melons were alert. (And by now, well, people were following their gut feelings like mad, so why not?) They each bobbed once slightly in the field, as if in applause.

No explosions, though, if that was what superstar Axel was asking of his fans.

Far from discouraged, Axel began a rendition of Rock and Roll All Nite.

The melons slowly stopped swaying. It was almost as if the blue melons were... expectant, somehow.

Once Rollo left shining melon #5 where he had found it earlier, he wandered over to the row of blue melons, picking up blue melon #4. It felt the same, really...

He doubted it would work, but he once more tried to work the tip of his knife under the skin of a melon.

His efforts yielded about the same result as his fun with the shiny melon.

Rollo wasn't sure what to try next on it, but then a loud racket started playing nearby him, and he took a look over at the person who seemed to be playing an instrument at the melons when--one seemed to explode.

Was music the key, then? Rollo didn't have any instruments on him, but he did have his cell phone. He hadn't used it since arriving since there was no reception, and had long since shut it off, but he powered it up once again, pulling the device from his pocket. He set the phone to the highest volume setting and played a ringtone, placing the phone close to the melon.

((OOC: Assuming that electronics that arrive still work, but can't actually communicate. Let me know if I've got that wrong. << >>))

((Until you run out of battery juice, the cell phone should be fine.))

The melon wiggled very slightly. So slightly that it could've just been a result of an aftershock from the very many things going on.

Curious Cheri was now curious. Finding another field of shiny melons, the woman proceeded to smooch all the unoccupied/available melons. Just to satisfy her curiosity, of course, not because she was into molesting melons. Really. >.>

Some melons gave off an air of being vaguely intrigued, but none exploded.

After a few moments of thought, Cheri decided to play a little joke. After propping up all the melons she'd just kissed, she proceeded to give them random faces made out of leaves (for hair), sticks (for noses and eyebrows), pebbles (for eyes), and the lipstick smudges she'd left in the wake of her smooching spree was filled in to create mouths. Yes, Cheri was that amused by it, she even gave them all different expressions. And one or two even got little pine cone mustaches.

The melons... now looked very, very silly. Until some stray melon-basher smashed the decorations off, anyway. Oh well.
