The nearest melon field is a short trip to the north. But despite its proximity to the town, the forest quickly thickens, and this melon field sits in a perfect weedless square, looking odd against the wild bushes all around it. Squirrels and bears rabbits occasionally skirt about, though they flee at the first sign of people. Some sunlight

Komui was angry now. Not only had HIS opponent been destroyed; he was now covered in melon juice. He decided to take out his rage on green melon #5 by kicking it.

He noticed the reaction. "You don't like water, do you?" he asked the melon. He proceeded to drag it back to the apartments and drop it in some hot water in the bathroom sink.

The melon seemed...expectant of something. But it didn't burst.

"Stll being difficult, are you?" he muttered, this time trying running some cold water on it.

[melonfield]

The melon stayed in one piece.

He noticed the melon was rather dirty, and began scrubbing it.

The melon is squeaky clean now. But it didn't break.

"Missed a spot" Komui muttered, taking some soap and scrubbing more with it.

At this point Komui is simply beating a dead horse. Only it's technically not a horse.

Komui took a moment to think what might be missing. He recalled that his tears initially gave him the idea of water, and it occured to him that salt water may be the key. He ran off to get some salt and returned, dumping it into the water.

Didn't change a thing. The melon still seemed expectant, somehow.

He groaned in annoyance, taking the melon and pressing his ear and cheek to it, wondering if it was even really a melon.

[melonfield]

Oh, it is definitely a melon. And it's ripe, to boot.

[their_guardian]

He then realized that, in all of his beating at the melons, he'd managed to cut a gash in his hand. Some of the blood smeared onto the melon.

[melonfield]

No visible change in the melon was detected.

He sighed, cleaning it again, this time with a washcloth.
