Melon Field 1 [Ari]

Jul 08, 2008 23:45

The vast forest west of town breaks into a clearing. It's not a small clearing, some stray beam of holiness in a dark and damp jungle, but a large opening, about the size of the town. Being extremely flat, it's easy to see that it's not the forest's edge -- the same forest surrounds it completely on every side. And there's something else easy to ( Read more... )

Hanataro wandered into the clearing, figuring this was a good chance to work on his swordin' arm.

He brought his magical harmless sword down clumsily on green melon #4.

The melon silently thanks him for the healing.

Ichigo had heard something about unbreakable melons...while Kenpachi was more the type to take it as a challenge, he'd decided to check it out anyway. Upon arriving at the field, he picked up Green Melon #2, as the green ones were the only normal looking ones at the moment. He knocked on it to test the thickness.

It wasn't particularly thicker; not any thicker than normal melons, at least. It also sounded ripe and yummy, whatever that sound was.

"Hn." Ichigo responded, and, without warning, slammed his fist into the melon, intendting to break it.

The melon wasn't even damaged in the least. It may even be silently mocking him.

Rika had not had a melon since...Well, she didn't remember. So the little girl had come to the conclusion that she ought to see about taking one of these mysterious melons and eating it so, next time she wondered if she'd eaten a melon recently, she'd have a new memory to look back on. And besides, these exotic looking melons had to be tasty, right?

"Mii~ Break nano desu~" She chimed, kneeling by the second rainbow melon and beating at it with her fists. Being a fairly small girl, Rika did not know if she had the strength to open the melon. How troublesome. "Please please~? 'smush smush'."
Okay, so this was a lame tactic, but Rika needed time to think up a better plan.

Within a few minutes, Kukai came beside his friend. While he honestly didn't think much of watermelon (it was mostly water! In the form of a fruit, anyhow), he also didn't want Rika to try and break them by herself. After all, they were pretty heavy too. And she... looked pretty fragile.

"Had any luck yet?" Probably not, he realized as soon as he asked. Sizing up the watermelon some more, he grinned and sat down beside her.

"I think that we should smash it like a pinata. You know, like they do every summer? You take a giant stick and whack it?"

"Kukai~" Rika exclaimed happily when her friend arrived. It had been getting boring sitting there all by herself; Rika had given up on beating it with her fists and gone to petting it, a lame attempt to get it to forgive her and maybe open on its own.

"Mii~~ That would be a good idea... but I dunno where to get a "smack smack" stick~~" She explained, turning her gaze from the melon to her friend, "Maybe maybe!! Umm... If we ask it nicely~"
The gentle girl nodded firmly to herself and looked down at the melon. "Please and thank you~~ 'smash smash' 'open open'."

The melon thought Rika was very cute, but it didn't break. It simply sat there and shimmered.

Trucy didn't really know if she liked melons or not, but when she happened upon the melon patch she gasped. Rainbow melons couldn't be anything but delicious, so she would have to take some home to the apartments for food.

But first, she wanted to try one for herself. Unfortunately, she hadn't brought a knife with her, but there were other ways to break a melon. She kneeled next to the fifth rainbow melon, and wrapped on it with a fist. "Open Sesame!"

The melon wondered if she meant "Open Melon" but made a mistake, for it had not read old stories.

Unfortunately, it didn't break, anyway.

Trucy frowned, having expected that to work. "Please open?" she added, and then tried shaking it vigorously.

The melon might have liked the "please", but not the shaking, certainly. In either case, it simply sparkled at her.

"MEEEELLOOOONNNSSSS!!"

Tamaki cried as he was running toward the patch. He was so excited when he heard that there were melons - did he even like them? Eh, that wasn't important - they were unbreakable! Meaning, it was stomping time! That would be fun, right? He'd heard they were a tradition! Though usually they were crushed on the beach. But.. NO, SIDE-TRACKED. MELON!

Once he got close enough, he launched himself toward the melons, meaning to jump right on to green melon #1.

The melon stayed there and didn't move or dodge, but as he landed, it didn't break, either.
