Melon Field 2 [Yuri]

Jul 08, 2008 23:47

The forest north of the village stretches to the mountain ridge bordering the sea. But before the narrow mountain pass to the sea, before the end of the forest can quite be seen, there is a melon field. The land is a little hilly here, and the forest around it is uneven, but the field itself is perfectly leveled and square. Although interest in the ( Read more... )

Panting and huffing, Rosette leaned her hands on her knees for a minute or so before righting herself. So this was one of the infamous fields, huh. It seemed like it was a little early in the year for melons, and yet there were still several in the field, shining with various colors. The girl grit her teeth determinedly and went over to grab the first melon in reach, which happened to be red melon #1.

"So, there's a way to get memories back here, huh?"

With that comment, she started poking the melon.

And the melon sat, like a melon.

And got poked.

Because, honestly, what else could it do?

Not even remotely discouraged yet, she tried to consider the situation. Was there something inside the melon that would give memories back? She hadn't really thought this through and hadn't brought anything to try cutting the melon with, but there were other ways of breaking them, really.

Crouching down, she began hitting it against the ground with increasing force.

The melon simply took the abuse as if she were hitting a solid marble rock into the ground.

And the ground was starting to look like that was just what she was doing as well as a slight dent was forming below her efforts.

Clearly the melon was not phased in the slightest.

"What is this made of anyway?" she grumped, trying to dig her finger into the thick surface. Maybe if she could just get the rind started ...

Her fingernails proved no match for the rind, which just glistened red.

Or was it glinting evilly?

Haha, don't be silly, it's just a melon after all.

"Hey hey hey hey hey, isn't that a bit too much for a melon? Well then, I'll show you..."

She put the melon on the ground, backed up a few paces, then dashed forward and gave it her best soccer kick right into the trees.

Defying the laws of the world, well the normal laws of normal worlds, the melon did not break but rather bounced off the thick trunk and rolled to a stop a few feet from the tree's base, completely and mockingly whole.

Her jaw dropped.

"DON'T UNDERESTIMATE ME!"

She dove forward and grabbed the melon again, reaching back as far as she could and hurling it directly at the trunk this time.

Almost as if in spite, but melons can't spite, can they? the melon simply bounced back even harder at this closer range hurling and nearly beaned the girl before it landed behind her, rolled, and stopped, waiting for the next attempt.

She ducked frantically, then righted herself, staring in rage at the melon.

"Okay, that's it, you're gonna feel God's wrath now!"

She stomped away from the wayward fruit and into the trees for a moment, digging around in the undergrowth until she found what she sought: a hefty stick.

"Say your prayers!"

That melon was in for a beating.

The melon was shaking in its boots. Except it had no boots. And wasn't shaking... it was a melon.

However, the stick shook it a little. But did no damage.

Its shiny red rind was intact in the end, unchanged. Maybe it really was made of marble like some sort of strange melon throne, who knew?

Rosette grit her teeth. She was going to send this thing flying again at this rate. Winding up with the stick, she whacked it as hard as she could into the air, much like a golfball.

The red fruit sailed several feet before landing with a plop amongst its peers and waited smugly for the next attempt.

Rosette chased after it, still swinging the stick, and this time she whacked it hard into the trees.

"EAT BARK YOU ROTTEN PIECE OF FRUIT!"

There was a loud crack as the melon made contact with a tree, but it wasn't of the melon breaking open, oh no, it was of the tree's bark crunching under the melon's unintended assault.

The melon was fine.

Poor tree.
