Melon Field 2 [Yuri]

Jul 08, 2008 23:47

The forest north of the village stretches to the mountain ridge bordering the sea. But before the narrow mountain pass to the sea, before the end of the forest can quite be seen, there is a melon field. The land is a little hilly here, and the forest around it is uneven, but the field itself is perfectly leveled and square. Although interest in the ( Read more... )

This was what everyone was talking about? Squalo stared at the melon patch, frowning. I must be more bored than I thought. He glanced back at Belphegor, wondering why he let the nut talk him into coming to this place.

"You really think there is nothing better to do than hang out at a melon patch?" Not waiting for a response, he poked blue melon #2 experimentally with his sword.

Bel watched Squalo poke at the blue melon, a smile that could indicate anything from amusement to homicidal fury on his face (the fact he wasn't stabbing anything at the moment suggested the former rather than the latter).

'They're not just any melons, Squalo. They're magical melons. Tougher than the average melon.' The Prince kicked casually at the fruit, then looked back at Squalo, 'See? I bet you can't even crack it.'

Was that a challenge? Squalo continued to frown as looked down at the melon. Obviously force was not going to break them, or Bel could have found a way to crack open the melon himself. But gossip spoke of at least one person who had managed to smash the horrible things. If someone else could do it, Squalo did not want admit defeat either.

" What do you suggest then, mister genius?" He punctuated the end of his sentence with a sharp jab to the poor blue melon.

Bel's grin grew wider. If he played his cards right Squalo and the melon could keep him entertained for hours. 'Well,' he said at last, 'I think we need to try thinking outside the box on this one. We're more clever than the others...well, I am.' He picked the melon up and turned it around a few times before rapping on its protective skin with his knuckles. He looked thoughtful...or as thoughtful as one can when his eyes are hidden. 'Squalo, what else is sort of shaped like this?' he asked, holding the melon out to his silver haired companion.

Having heard of the melons, Celice arrived at this patch on horseback. From what he could gather from the people around town, these melons had some sort of trick to breaking them. Celice ordered his horse to stay put, dismounted, drew his sword, and brought it down on Blue 1.

The sword simply stopped at the rind and went no further as the blue-skinned melon only shifted in the ground from the blow. Not even a scratch.

"Slashes don't seem to be working..." Celice muttered under his breath. "But other attacks might!" With that, he grabbed the melon, chucked it into the air, and jumped up after it, aiming to stab clear through it.

The melon rather than being impaled just was knocked from the air by the sword strike and hit the ground with a heavy thud. Once more the sword seemed rather effective and the melon, if it had eyes, would like be looking up at him impassively where it landed as if to ask "what now?"

Cheri wandered into the patch curiously. She'd heard rumors of the oddly unbreakable melons of course but she of course had to see for herself what all the fuss was about. Not being curious enough yet to go too far in her wanderings, she had chosen a patch fairly close to town. Indeed, there really were very cute and pretty and shiny melons all lined up! After a bit of poking the dirt and the vines and looking around the area, Cheri gently picked up Rainbow #3 and looked it over for signs of cracks, damage, bugs, or any other Unsavory Things.

The melon simply shined and beamed back at the woman and proved to be completely perfect. It wasn't even very dirty from the ground it grew in.

Cheri smiled at the melon for being so pretty and impulsively smooched it. <3 Now, this would make a wonderful slushed drink if she could get it open!

The melon glowed in affection for the kiss, or maybe it just looked the same... it was hard to tell given its shimmery rainbow nature, but who wouldn't love a kiss from such a lovely lady, right?

Melons! Melons were yummy, melons were good! And these melons were interesting! Lambo stood in awe of the brightly colored fruit lying on the ground. "Wooooooow!!" he exclaimed before running over to Rainbow #4. Never mind that a 5-year-old child seemed to somehow make his way up to a melon field unsupervised--there were melons to crack!

Lambo wanted to try some of these melons! And Rainbow 4 looked way cooler than the rest of them! He pulled out one of many guns he somehow mystically kept on him at all times and pulled the trigger abruptly, aiming for the melon even though his eyes were closed.

All the bullet did was nudge the melon over to the side, rolling a bit in the dirt as the bullet itself, crumpled, fell to the ground next to it.

That--that wasn't right...was it? Bullets made things explode and make really loud noises! They weren't supposed to fall off the thing they were hitting! Bullets were stronger--it was like in that game with the rock and the scissors and the paper. Except bullets always won.

So Lambo pulled out another gun, similar in appearance, before shooting them both repeatedly. More than one bullet would do more damage, right?

Apparently not. The melon continued to sit unharmed, unmarred and very shiny.

Godot kidnapped Rainbow 5 and carried it away with no attempts on it on-site.

The melon went along with this plan for now, but once it has a chance, it'll make a break for it... or not. It's a melon after all.

(( OOC: Don't forget any attempt you try outside this log need to be linked back in or they won't count. ))

(( OOC: Given how long it's been I'm sure Godot forgot about it for five minutes at least and the melon is now back in the field. ))
