The very moment Ren stepped into the park, he regretted coming there. Nothing could possibly be as annoying as the loud crowd surrounding him. Frankly though, he had never expected to enjoy the ball. What was the reason he decided to take part in such a ridiculous celebration? Because it certainly wasn't socializing. Oh, that's right - memories.

Somehow, seeing the colorful decorations and grinning faces made him doubt they were worth such sacrifice.

Regardless, Ren did not intend to have anything to do with other people there. Leaning against a tree on the edge of the park, the shaman waited for the party to end.

For the last fifteen minutes Kyoko had been wandering around the park admiring the decorations and everyone's attire. Fancy occasions like this were not something she got to see often and she felt like an extra in a fairy tale. Having suitably gawked enough she stopped next to the tree Ren was leaning against and grinned at him. While he had a look on his face like he was being tortured, it could be that he was just shy. "Did you see how bright the stars are tonight? I don't think I ever saw them this clearly back home."

Oh, great. Because Ren surely needed his already bad day to get even worse. Scowling, he reluctantly turned to the newcomer.

The shaman could only wonder what the hell was wrong with all those happy idiots around who apparently enjoyed the ball - but truth to be told, he didn't give a damn. And he didn't care why the girl in front of him would bother to start a conversation, either.

"Hmph. That's simply because you don't even watch them there." He said, giving her a cold glare. Honestly, normal humans were annoying.

Okay. Not shy. Just a grump. No, no. Don't think that way. Some people just take time to warm up to others. Still smiling, she tried to continue on the conversation despite wanting to glare back at Ren. "I try to, but I'm from the city. There are too many bright lights and tall building for me to see them well."

Okay, so maybe Misa did arrive a few minutes late. But great stars were always late to the parties, right?

Okay, so maybe Misa did choose an older guy to be her date. But great stars always did something scandalous at the parties, right?

All of this would have a point if Misa was actually recognized as a famous model. But in Memento Eden, she wasn't. Nevertheless, she figured it would be a good training before going back to her own world! She didn't remember attending any balls, but she certainly didn't feel nervous. Quite the contrary, she was as optimistic and energetic as usually while wandering around the park.

Blonde. Hyper. Misa-Misa. Klarth murmured these three things to himself under his breath as he continued to walk across the dance floor. He'd already embarrassed Louise, Lloyd's friend, by murmuring 'Misa-Misa?' to her once or twice in passing. She hadn't been. Pent had not been amused.

As he crossed for the millionth time, he caught sight of blonde hair out of the corner of his eye -- And finally, he remembered the picture. "Misa-Misa!" Calling out in his excitement, Klarth raised a hand as he approached. "Or rather, Miss Misa." There was a genuine smile on his face as he dipped his head towards the lady, summoning all the powers of etiquette he could manage. (He'd practiced in the mirror for days.) "Ah-hem. You look quite lovely tonight, ma'am. It is my pleasure to be your partner for this ball." The words were spoken a bit woodenly, but he inwardly congratulated himself on managing to remember the entire thing.

Oh-ho.

Stage fright, huh? Well, not exactly, since a) they weren't on a stage and b) Klarth was not doing bad. But Misa was a professional, so she could easily pick up if what a person said was really natural. Still, she didn't mind - it was a ball, not a performance, right?

"Aw, thanks!" She even managed to put some shyness in there. Thinking she should add acting to her 'to-do-at-home' list, she took her date's hand and gave him a bright smile. "So, what do you want to do first? Dance? Eat?"

Okay, so that all shyness really wasn't her thing.

Klarth stiffened a bit as she grabbed at his hand. Then forced himself to relax. Nothing to it. He knew he'd prepared himself well for an overenthusiastic date -- He'd talked to Lloyd, who was something like a puppy on steroids. It was simply a matter now of, well. Maybe not pretending she was Lloyd (that would be awkward), but simply responding to her in the same manner that he would with the boy. Err. That was a bit awkward as well, actually. He ignored the cries of 'pervert' that had strangely begun to echo in his mind, focusing upon a point just a little to the left of Misa's eyes.

"Let's get something to eat first before it's all gone. There's no good getting free stuff and not taking advantage of it." And of course, he certainly brave enough to dance until he was a tad bit less than sober. His voice had dropped into a more normal rhythm now, as had his diction. He couldn't imagine keeping up the fancy talk all night -- That was reserved for the classroom.

"Ladies first."

Fate certainly felt as though she had never attended something like a ball. She did her best to subdue her feelings of awkwardness, though being in a place with so many people all at once made it difficult; she felt out-of-place, likely a feeling leftover by her childhood. She was still confused about her past but continued to keep the knowledge to herself.

The red dress she wore made her feel awkward as well; Louise helped her decide on it and had complimented her, but wearing a dress felt somewhat strange. Fate was far more used to pants or skirts. She had originally wanted to wear her black suit, but...

For some reason, she wanted something different and special. After speaking with Subaru so many times, a feeling she had always had began to enter her conscious mind: she wanted Nanoha to notice her. That was the entire reason for what she felt was a strange choice in clothing and her heart was beating faster and faster as she looked for her friend.

Going to the ball had been a bit of a last minute decision. Nanoha had been so focused on working and training herself (some of her childhood memories included Raising Heart) that she'd almost forgotten about going. Getting a dress had been a last minute effort, and Nanoha deeply regretted that she hadn't gone dress shopping with Fate and Subaru, since it seemed like a fun group activity.

"Oh, Fate-chan!" The brunette's lips broke to a smile when she spotted Fate. Nanoha had been a bit worried that she wouldn't be able to find Fate, so was relieved to have spotted her in the crowd. It didn't take Nanoha long to notice the pretty dress Fate was wearing either, nor did it take her long to tag a sincere compliment. "Wow! That dress looks really good on you, Fate-chan! You look beautiful!"

Fate smiled at the sound of Nanoha's voice and then her face became a rosy shade of red from the compliment. "Th-Thank you, Nanoha." She was silent for a moment which felt like an eternity and, in a bit of a panic, blubbered out "Ah, you look very, very b-beautiful too, Nanoha."

For whatever reason, she felt as awkward now as she had felt as a child. This was Nanoha, her best friend--why was she feeling so awkward?

Nanoha's sunny [oblivious] smile remained during the brief silence. The only change to her smile occurred when the compliment was returned, at which point her smile became a bit shy and her cheeks picked up colour.
"Thank you, Fate-chan! I'm glad you think so!" Really glad. For some reason getting a compliment from Fate felt a bit more special then a compliment from another friend. "So... Are you waiting for someone, Fate-chan...?"

Tibarn was hanging out by the food, stuffing his face but at least being somewhat subtle about it and not making a complete mess. There was a lot of the food that he wanted to try, and he certainly had a big enough stomach. Meanwhile, he kept an eye on everyone, simply observing for the most part. He wore a plain gray suit that he had spent the last few days doctoring up so that his wings wouldn't get in the way. Precision--at least that kind of precision--was not his strongest skill, but he had done an okay job of it. Even while he was clearing plates of food, he appeared dignified enough.

Not that he cared.

"King Tibarn." Ledah nodded as he took up a spot a few feet away from the hawk king by the table. As opposed to stuffing his face, he appeared to be slowly digging his way through a large pile of food stacked on his plate, his bites miniscule and hardly noticeable at all. Ledah's eyes flickered momentarily towards the suit, taking particular note of the wing-holes. A small smile spread across his face.

"Enjoying the feast?"

"Hello Ledah," Tibarn said, having swallowed his latest bite. He offered him a half wave with his free hand, returning the grin. "I'd offer you some recommendations on the food, but it's all pretty damn good. Your friends in the kitchen behind all of this, or did the island magically whip it up?"

Tibarn bit into a breaded shrimp and chewed it down before continuing. "Anyway, you keeping yourself busy? I think most of the island has showed up."

"None needed. I've already finished a plate. There's very little else to do aside from eat, as impressive as the festival is." Ledah calmly continued to pick his way through an incredibly dense piece of chocolate cake. "I don't think the kitchen staff was involved. I, at least, had nothing to do with it; it would have taken days to prepare. I expect this is something like Chinese New Year's." That, if he recalled correctly, was the last festival of sorts that the island had put on for them.

"It was a good idea to offer bribes for our participation. I wouldn't have come otherwise, and judging from the number of those sulking in the corners, neither would a good portion of the island. Though as a matter of fact, life without the constant presence of my roommate is surprisingly boring." This was stated in a fairly matter-of-fact tone; he'd long gotten over whatever semblance of emotion he had held for the man.

"And what about you? Not yet boring enough for the island to send home, I see."

Arsène Lupin had at first moved about the ball in a casual fashion, flitting from person to person and greeting all those he spoke with in the genial fashion that was typical of him. He rather liked this sort of diversion, it gave him the chance to take stock of the island's populace and their various dispositions (not to mention their belongings...) in an inviting, and yet unassuming, setting ( ... )

Fay was still continuing his rounds of the guests, and Arsene's lingering on the edges of the crowd had not escaped Fay's notice. Taking leave of a few more of his friends, he headed over to the other man, smiling completely disarmingly.

"And a good evening to you, Arsene! Why, you cannot tell me a man like you came alone?"

"Ah, I think I understand what you mean," said Fay, chuckling a little. "I feel as though perhaps I am neglecting the party that I came with. I am attending with a fellow, yes, and a few children that I am aquainted with. But I couldn't resist saying hello to everyone!"
