Luckily, Ike had the day off from work. As soon as the smell of meat reached him, he was down in the park, moving from one food stand to the next. At all times, he had some sort of meat in his hands, and he was chowing down on it with gusto.

The past weeks weren't good for Suzaku. Too many people had disappeared. Too many friends had been lost. Even though he knew they had gone back to where they belonged (or at least he hoped they had), it was difficult for him to accept that.

He wandered around the area of the festival without purpose, thinking about the time he had spent on the island. Suddenly, he noticed a familiar face. He moved to the stand to greet him.

"Ike-san. It's been a while. How have you been?" Suzaku asked, forcing a smile.

Ike turned when Suzaku greeted him, his mouth full of food at the moment. He held up a finger, continued chewing, swallowed, and then replied. "Can't complain. How've you been?"

"I'm doing fine myself, thank you." Suzaku replied. He didn't want to make anyone worry about him.

He looked around before addressing Ike again. "It's nice to attend a festival like this once in a while, don't you think?"

Booster wandered the festival, taking in the sights (and some of the meats). What really caught his attention, though, was the boarded-up building.

"I wonder why it's closed," he mused out loud, to nobody in particular.

"It's haaaaunteeeeeed." Kyoko said from beside him, waving her fingers in what she hoped was a spooky fashion. Initially she had been enjoying the strange festival but a mysterious building can only be ignored for so long. "Though usually aren't haunted buildings older? I mean, this one just appeared overnight! What kind of ancient and horrible history could it have?"

She pointed dramatically to the beer symbol above the door before continuing in an accusing tone. "And who ever heard of a haunted beer building?! Seriously! It needs to be more spooky, like, I don't know... A guillotine factory!"

"Did they make guillotines in factories?" Booster asked. "I don't think it's haunted, though. That's more for Halloween, and that's still more than a month off. This is supposed to be Oktoberfest, so why is the beer missing? It's kind of missing the point."

"Oktoberfest in September is weird enough. Wait, Oktoberfest is about beer? I thought it had to do with October! No wonder the haunted house isn't that frightening." She crossed her arms and gave the building a more thoughtful look.

"Maybe they're waiting for a special time to open it. Like midnight. Midnight is always an important time for these kind of things."

Cooro was, quite predictably, at a food vendor stuffing his face. One of his favorite parts of living in Memento Eden was the availability of food; most of it was free, and the stuff that wasn't was easily paid for since he had saved up so much money. Even though he had not nearly remembered everything quite yet, he was sure that coming by food had been much more difficult back home.

"More, please!" He waved cheerily at the vendor, completely unaware of the messy state of his face and rather uncaring at that.

"Hey, that looks pretty good. I'll take two of them!" Lloyd announced enthusiastically from a few feet away. Festivals were definitely the way to go, and Lloyd was soaking up every second of it.

The brunet cast a grin in Cooro's direction after retrieving his own food.

"I'm guessing you're having fun! Any other vendors you'd recommend, Cooro? I want to try everything, if it's even half as good as the food at that ball a while back!"

Who cared about table manners? It looked delicious! Lloyd would then proceed to stuff himself, and continue to do so throughout the night until he made himself sick.

"Yeah! This place is great!" Cooro replied between bites. "But I haven't looked around too much. I've mostly stuck around this place." The next plate arrived just as he finished up, and he promptly started on that one. It was amazing how someone so small could eat so much...

Lloyd laughed heartily, "Yeah, I bet I can see why. If you don't watch it, you won't even be able to move in a few hours. I might even have to roll you back to the apartments or something!"

This didn't stop Lloyd from making himself comfortable, though. It was good food, and besides, the view from here wasn't bad. He could take in the sights, take in the food, and run his mouth all at the same time. Well, it was bad manners to talk and eat at the same time, so he tried his best to alternate... but that wasn't the point anyway.

If you're amazed by how much Cooro can eat, just think how much the two of them could consume together. If there's an eating contest around here, sign these guys up.

So this is what the events he'd heard of were like. It was...wow. Emil had to wonder where everything had come from--he hadn't seen anything being set up recently (how did they put up an entire building in one day?), but there were stands and performers everywhere. He didn't really recognize anything he saw (would he know if he had?), but the newness actually made it all the more interesting. The performers were fun to watch, and the sword eater especially looked amazing. How did he do that?

Thanks to the smell of food permeating the streets, Emil's stomach began to rumble as he explored the town and eventually he caved and bought some dumplings from one of the vendor, which he started eating as he walked around, checking out the different attractions. Even if it turned out he wouldn't get memories for something like this, it was still pretty fun out here. It beat definitely better than doing homework all day, that was for sure.

Trunks wandered aimlessly among the food stands. To avoid eating the vendors out of their stock, he had only brought a small portion of his money to spend today, and the amount of food he had in his hands reflected this. But he wasn't eating as voraciously as he normally did. His mind was elsewhere.

As much as he tried to hide it, Trunks missed Mikuru dearly. This would have been the sort of occasion he would have loved to spend with his girlfriend were she still here, and so it felt extra painful to wander around alone. As a result, he was not in much of a mood to play any of the carnival games that were available, and he didn't have much of an appetite by Saiyan standards. He was still eating, though, and he had to admit, the meat was extremely good.
