Chapter 3

As walking from the main building to the small library in the back court, Jungsu looked up at the sky and found the thick clouds covering over the falling sun there. It seemed that it was going to rain soon or later. He held the books in his arms tightly again and quickened the steps to the destination.

He liked the circumstances in his new work place very much so far - well, there was a certain problem distracting him from perfectly peaceful life actually, but excepting for that, he had been sending a very content life in this school. Most students were bright and polite, other teachers welcomed him warmly, and even a small private room was prepared for him in the main building for the study and preparation for the classes. What he liked most in this school, however, was an independent library located at a corner of the back court.

The library building was old yet beautifully architected, and the silence and the scent of history there gave him a comfort in the busy life as a high-school teacher. The building had two stories, and the first floor was opened for the students for reading and studying, but the access to the second floor was restricted only to the teachers. In this past several weeks, Jungsu had found no other teachers walked into this area (maybe some even didn’t know its existence), and he had gladly decided to use this area as his ‘secret garden’. He had explored the whole floor and found a small stack room equipped with an old desk and a chair beside the small window. The room was dusty and dimly-lit occupied with countless numbers of old books, but it reminded him of his childhood room back in his home somehow, and he liked the room at first sight. When he had found the key of the room left inserted in the keyhole of the creaky door, he almost jumped in joy. He had got his secret refuge.

Since then, he enjoyed his private time between and after classes in that stack room alone. He liked the students and coworkers, that was true, but he needed time and space he could be alone, put down his duty as a teacher and relax. The room was small and filled with numerous books in the tall shelves towering over him from every angle, but he could find a peace there. In that quiet place, he could cut off himself from the bustle of school, especially from the naughty boy Kim Youngwoon who was chasing him around everywhere lately.

Since the day Jungsu had given that boy a detention and somehow ended up being trapped in the forced deal that brat suggested, the boy started to chase him more openly. Jungsu was cautious at first if Youngwoon would demand more from him or involve him into some troubles, but he lowered his guard gradually because what Youngwoon did was…well, not that bad as he had expected.

“Good morning, Mr.Park!”
“Mr.Park, I have a question about the second sentence on the page thirty nine, where the protagonist says…”
“Mr.Park, what do you have at lunch? What!? Only those vegetables!? That’s why you are this thin, you should eat more!”

Greeting faster than anyone when he stepped into the classroom, putting some (mostly small) questions during class to draw an attention from him, or chasing around him at lunch time like a puppy dog when Jungsu failed to secretly escape to his ‘refuge’. And honestly speaking to himself, Jungsu found those actions kind of adorable.

It didn’t look the same man who was standing only inches from him and voiced his name against his skin with that hot whisper back in that day in the deserted class room. The man who scared him with those intense gaze had disappeared to somewhere, and the Kim Youngwoon chasing him around like a little bear (well, not that little actually) looked nothing but a cheerful student who would never dare to threaten a teacher seductively.

Remembering the scene in the classroom that day, Jungsu blushed and shook his head to drive out the memory of the strength of the grip on his wrist and the hotness of the body cornered him into the window. He looked up at the ceiling of the stack room and took deep breath repeatedly to calm down. Regaining the control over himself, he walked along between the bookshelves looking especially for nothing actually. The fierce sound of rain and wind outside roared loudly in the normally quiet place, and it told that the weather was terrible like a storm. He was looking out the window considering to go home before it became too late when the creak sound of the door opening caught his attention.

“I found you finally.”

There was Kim Youngwoon with a triumphal grin on his face standing at the door.

“I was wondering where you always disappear to after the classes, so when I found you walking out of the main building today, I thought it would be a good chance to figure it out. So this is you secret base, huh?”

Youngwoon walked in and looked around the room curiously. Jungsu opened his mouth in shock, hearing the sound of his perfect refuge collapsing in his head.

“Did you stalk me!?”

Youngwoon just ignored the accusation and covered his ears mockingly. Jungsu found himself smiling at the childish behavior of the young man. He needed to cough to cover his smile and play a duty as a teacher.

“Kim Youngwoon, students are not allowed to come in this place.”

Hearing that, Youngwoon stopped the foots wandering around the stack room and walked up to Jungsu standing at the narrow path between tall shelves. The young man smirked in a not-so-childish way.

“Did you forget our promise, Jungsu? Call me just Youngwoon, okay?”

Jungsu immediately tensed up by the word. Actually this was the first time they were in private since the day they had made the promise, because Jungsu had been carefully avoiding the situation. Youngwoon’s eyes were glistering even in the dim light of the room, and Jungsu was paralyzed by the intenseness of the gaze. The young man smelled like rain, and Jungsu noticed his hair and shirt were slightly wet. Youngwoon leaned forward without a word, and Jungsu flinched widely. He instinctively thought that Youngwoon would touch him. Next moment, however, the young man exploded with laughter.

“You look ridiculously cute with those glasses!”

He pointed at the glasses on Jungsu’s nose and held his sides with laughter. Jungsu blushed at the word, feeling relieved and strangely betrayed at the same time.

“Stop laughing! I need these when I read book-“

At the moment, the great lightning flashed suddenly, and everything blacked out.

“W-What happened!?”

Jungsu cried in surprise and reached his hands into air, searching for something to hold on in the darkness. He felt something hot soon caught him by the hand.

“It’s okay, it seems electricity went out by the lightning. It will recover in a while.”

Youngwoon talked softly, and Jungsu felt himself strangely calmed down by the voice. The storm was blustering wildly outside, as if isolating the two of them from the world.

“You don’t need these in the darkness, do you.”

Youngwoon took off the glasses from the elder’s ears and placed those on the shelf nearby. His voice was soft and calm, so it prevented the elder from protesting. Youngwoon cupped Jungsu’s face with his palms, and the elder shivered by the touch because it was unexpectedly gentle from this bulky man.

“Are you afraid?”, Youngwoon asked in a whisper.

“No.”

Jungsu didn’t know if the younger was asking about the darkness or something else, but he was replying before he realized himself. The warmth of the younger man spread from the hands cupping his cheeks, and it made him dazed. The darkness hid the expression on the other one’s face from him, so Jungsu couldn’t tell what the younger was thinking now. It was same for Youngwoon, and there was only one way to make sure it. He kissed Jungsu in the darkness.

Youngwoon’s lips were cold because of the rain, and Jungsu shivered at the moment those lips touched his. Youngwoon caressed the elder’s jaw-line with his fingers softly, alluring the elder to open the mouth. Following the pure instinct, Jungsu parted his lips and accepted the younger man.

“Umm…”

Because the younger’s big palms were covering over the ears, the wet sound of exchanging the kiss echoed aloud in Jungsu’s head, and it made him devoted into the kiss more and more. The darkness helped them hide from the world, and Jungsu was now kissing back intently.

Suddenly, all lights came back to lives and they were exposed under the brightness. Jungsu winced instantly as if the spell was broken. Remembering his position as a teacher, Jungsu tried to push away Youngwoon, but the younger didn’t allow that. He covered the elder’s eyes with his hand and continued the kiss more heatedly, hoping the temporal darkness would help him taking back the elder into the magic-time just for a bit more while. He didn’t let the elder pull away from him till both of them ran out of the air and had to break the kiss finally.

They both didn’t talk, only the rough sound of breathing filled the room. Jungsu collapsed on the floor with his back against the bookshelf, his eyes still tightly shut.

Youngwoon left the room before the elder opened his eyes.

…to be continued.
