today, my freshmen were going outside to do part of a lab. so i posted a sign on the door with my name on it and "get jackets!" i started class, we corrected papers, did the pre-lab, then went outside. i locked the door behind us. when we came back, one of my students noticed that the door had shut half of the sign inside, which cut off the ( Read more... ) -

the good: one of my kiddies (*braggin* for whom i wrote a recommendation *end braggin*) got into one of the claremont colleges... with a 10K scholarship. so awesome. of course, her scholarship is entirely due to her own abilities, but it still somehow feels good to me.

A resident at 7:24 a.m. on Feb. 24 reported a fire at his Orleans Street home. A hot pad caught fire and the man placed it into the sink, which caused the trashcan underneath to catch fire. However, the trashcan fire melted nearby water pipes, causing water to spray the flames and put out the fire. -

in order to encourage donations to our school fundraiser, they're playing a song over the intercom before and after school, during lunch, and during all passing periods. this might not be so bad if the goal weren't two 8-gallon jugs of coins and the song weren't numa numa. -
