YAY! I'm so excited for you! It'll be worth it - and this is coming from someone who used to hate running with a PASSION and has asthma!!!

Trust me, you will have so much more energy. I sleep less and am more productive when I am regularly running.

thanks for the advice and running plan. i currently hate running with a passion, so hopefully this will slowly change my mind. i hope my body can hack it though. i'm REALLY outta shape =)

i can vouch for the validity of the article... benlbr March 9 2007, 22:13:19 UTC
...based on what I heard (maybe? =))

I can imagine running being good for sex, but the converse probably isn't true.

just like - finishing early in a race is good, but for sex? not so good =)

hahahah yes yes. sex isn't necessarily good for running, although i've seen an article talking about marathon runners who had sex the night before performing better during the marathon.

+ better sleep
+ cardio
+ better heart

just be careful not to push yourself too much. i did, and now i can't run anymore b/c it stresses out my back. it feels like someone's hammering nails into my lowerback when i run now...

:(

aaaaah! i have really bad knees so i can't run yet. but i'm going to try and warm myself up. the first 3 weeks will be dedicated to light jogging until my body is used to this!

i hope your back feels better!!! it must be so horrible to feel like nails are being hammered every time you run. have you been going to physical therapy?

no physical therapy for me.. i just assume it happens with age. i remember seeing athletes like larry bird, and now steve nash, always lying on their stomachs during basketball games, and never realized i would join them.

enjoy your good health while you can!

have you figured out a routine and some running routes yet?

Reply

yes on the routine
no on the routes

unfortunately i don't live close to any dirt / grass trails. everything is cemented around here. but i'm looking to do the dirt trails on the weekend.

as for routine, i basically took the program from the serpentine running club in london (link: http://www.serpentine.org.uk/advice/begin/starting.php). the first 3 weeks will be just walking & jogging every other day. since i'm not a runner and terribly out of shape, i'd like to warm my body up first and then gradually add to it.

any tips / advice / routine suggestions?

oh i also have not found shoes and gear that i like.
