This past week, we received a call from a vet in another town about a black vulture he had received. He really didn't want to deal with it and wasn't all that sure what to do anyway. Fair enough. He did agree to pick up the bird, put it in something and meet spouse halfway. The point they chose for their rendevous was a fast food place.

Ever since we began caring for wildlife, we have fielded requests from people begging us to take their domestic pets in addition to all the other animals we accept. Raptor rehabbing is not for the squeamish. Hawks and owls are dangerous and often extremely temperamental. Even though we've had years of dealing with them, we still experience injuries (spouse was badly footed just this past fall.) Those of us who handle them have to accept their down sides. One of those down sides is food.

I've been thinking about this writing thing. When we first moved to this property, the house itself was in disrepair. I'm talking on the verge of falling down. The land was considered a wasteland.
