She's in Rota, on the southern coast (Andalusia). If an American military family is in Spain, that's likely where they live ;). And yes, it's an awesome opportunity for them...much better than the assignments where her husband gets deployed for months at a time!
ahh, i know nothing about where American military families end up outside the US. i literally know *nothing* about housing elsewhere.
agreed, multiple months-long deployments are annoying at best. my other half's coworker has been in the 'stan for almost a year now. this is his third deployment to the sandbox since this conflict started. he is up for retirement and was planning on doing so right around when he got his orders. it sucks. i can't imagine how his wife feels about it. :\
Yeah, deployments are pretty rough on couples. My brother-in-law has been to Afghanistan twice and Iraq 3 times...but at least the Marines tend to deploy for more like 7 or 8 months at a time rather than a year or longer. It's...part of what you sign up for, though, so if the couple can trust each other, it can be a good chance to start fresh when he comes home. But of course it's super difficult. And he does get 3-4 year stints of being non-deployable in between.
