Friday night I had this terrible dream that I didn't actually graduate from Caltech. It turns out that I haven't taken Phys 12 or Intermediate Japanese. The dream got worse as I realized that I haven't taken Beginning Japanese yet either! I was very tired on Saturday, since I spent all night before in physics class worrying whether I will ( Read more... )

You are STRANGE!
And what's Phys 12 for you?

Ph 12 abc. Waves, Quantum Physics, and Statistical Mechanics. A one-year course primarily for students intending further work in the physics option. Topics include classical waves; wave mechanics, interpretation of the quantum wave-function, one-dimensional bound states, scattering, and tunneling; thermodynamics, introductory kinetic theory, and quantum statistics. May be taken to fulfill the Institute Ph 2 requirement.

Ph 2 ab. Statistical Physics, Waves, and Quantum Mechanics. The second year of a five-term introductory course in classical and modern physics. Topics to be covered include statistical physics and classical waves first term, introductory quantum mechanics second term.

Phys 2 is 2 terms long, and the standard sophomore physics load. Phys 12 is 3 terms long, and is the typical sophomore physics major load. Non physicists can take phys 12, but I took phys 2 instead. (sorry I didn't answer sooner!)
