'My trousers are not cooperating, Mama. I need you to fold them up, so I can put my sandals on.'

I have to keep reminding myself that it totally counts as vegetables even if Ada isn't seated at a table and is showing every sign of enjoying it. Right now, she's really enjoying fresh oregano from the garden, every time we walk past. ("Is this a yummy leaf, Mama?" "Yes, dear." "It's oregano!")

My daughter called me beautiful tonight.

Last night Ada was very upset because she kept forgetting one of the 'words' of Summertime (and the livin' is easy). It wasn't a word -- it was a note that I sing differently on the second verse from the first.

Today, she told me on the way home from her music class that the children all have 'lighter' voices and the adults have 'darker' ones. ( Read more... )

I woke up today with a mild hangover and a lot of tired (six or so hours' sleep does that to me). Rodger was ill. I thought I'd probably have a rather unpleasant day.

Much, much better day than I had any reason to expect. Ada was a gem, all day, my parents minded her all afternoon, so I could sleep all morning and still not miss work (which went really well), dinner had bonus sister and sister's partner as w...ell as parents and daughter, and Skype-with-Daddy went really well before an easy, happy putting-the- ( Read more... )

I can't remember spending social time with my parents, my siblings, and my siblings' partners without coming away convinced I don't know any group I like so well.

Later, I always remember various of my friends who produce a similar effect, but I never seem to be able to in the first half hour or so.
