Once again woke up to intimidating thunder and lightening and four weather alerts: Severe thunderstorm warning, tornado watch, Flood Advisory, and Flash Flood Watch. Just finished Kate Christensen's Trouble, which iss amazing. Christensen improves with every book, going deeper and getting more incisive with writing and with her characters. Took the first day of vacation off. Did nothing but read and walk the dogs and nap. Tomorrow I have to plant and weed, but today just enjoying the weather and the new Kate Christensen.

The humidity has finally broken. Still warm, but tolerable. Which works beautifully as I'm about to start a four day weekend. Time to finally paint the hall and plant the tomatoes.

Hot, humid weather in May always worries me about what's going to happen when summer really starts. We're having a spell of temps close to ninety and dew points hovering around seventy now - what is July going to be like?

And yet, I can't make myself plant my tomatoes until Memorial Day weekend because we might get a frost.

Logic, I'm failing.

I think, if I could have any job in the world, I'd be the editor in chief of NYRB Classics. Digging up all the great books that have gone out of print and bringing them back in beautiful editions - I could spend my life doing that.
