Those are interesting questions. I know there was another me here before I got here but I don't remember any of it.

Thank you - I do believe these curses are in many ways... in many ways meant to conserve our strength for only the threat of the hour, to discourage us from union. We hardly know one another in this City. This might well help.

Have you any dreams or flashes of memory to something that might suit that period? Does the sight of items you used to own here bring back anything?

No -- no, I don't remember any of the people who say they know me or -- anything. Only memories I have are from back home and since I arrived -- again.

I want to be a part of this research though. I'm good at research. So how can I help?

If you don't much mind terribly, you can help by releasing your name.

I was allowed to return home for a fortnight two years ago. So far as I could tell, there wasn't anything different about it. In fact, I was returned to the very moment in which I found myself in the City. Whether that means there's any less impending doom, I'm not sure.

But I wanted to say that there are quite a few of us who have, at one time or another, been trying to find patterns in the curses. We've noticed a few, but they're not very clear patterns, if they're really patterns at all.

In other words, you found nothing conclusive in your travel. Unfortunate.

If you know of these theories of pattern-making, I'd much like to know them as well. If anything, it should give me the work of additional perspective.

Nothing aside from proof that we are taken from and returned to the same moment ( ... )

That is all you've found over the years?

...extraordinary. I can't begin to thank you.

[The Master doesn't trust the Network at all. Therefore, he does a little bit of tracking and eventually leaves a note, folded several times, in Tom's box.]

Communication on the Network draws the eye of the "deities", especially in relation to overthrowing them or escaping. I'm not sure I'd be so obvious, if I were you, but it did, at least, serve the purpose of catching my attention. I'd be interested in a meeting, possibly, as we seem to be for the same cause, and I imagine any plans would be more effective the more people that could be involved in their execution. Otherwise, continuing to communicate through notes is fine, as long as you don't try and contact me using any technology that can be spied upon. At the very least, we could plan to act separately but simultaneously, to reduce "deity" attention and increase the chance of success. This is all just supposition, naturally.

[ Also left in Tom's own inbox, operating on the belief that whoever left the original note will come back to see whether it's been picked up and find the reply. ]

I have nothing to hide. For all that we're aware, personal exchanges and physical activity is also monitored. I intend to work visibly and earnestly. We shall not win this in hiding. And I am not a thug, to hide.

I look forward to learning more of your intentions.

I'm one of the City's more recent arrivals, so I'm afraid I don't have much information to offer. Though I am curious as to the answers you receive.

[ A beat. ] I have heard a thing or two about the City's dead.

[ Must they all make a show of superiority and have him grovel for their answers. ]

And I should like nothing more to hear those things with you.

Most of the City's dead re-arise after they've fallen, though there are some who stay dead. It all seems a bit arbitrary, but I'm lead to believe the native inhabitants of the City are far less inclined to play Lazarus.

Many of those that die return newly-restored. Some, however, return 'afflicted'. Or so it's been explained to me.

There is nothing arbitrary in this world. There are only those things that have not yet been conjoined by the mind and will.

It would do well to investigate who among the dead stayed with the unliving, and why they were not allowed a swift return.
