Moving on up

For the next two months, I'll have a Richmond address. I've already caught myself saying "technically, it's Richmond" when people ask me where I live. As for why I say that, check out everything that happened over a span of two weeks earlier this year:

03-18 - North Richmond man beaten to death, set ablaze

03-30 - Homeless man shot to death atRead more... )

Beats living in between a check cashing shop and the likka sto', like my old place.

I hear that place has gotten gentrified lately.

So... you live in South Richmond, right?

According to Wikipedia the Iron Triangle is South Richmond. We're in Marina Bay, so we're even further south.

So, to answer your question, yes and no? :)

Well just as long as you're out of the hotspots. :P I want my regular dose of reviews of bikes I'll probably never ride. ;)

Definitely out of the hot spots. My morning run takes me through places seen on this page. It's really nice!

I live in East Oakland just off of 66th and last fall there was a homicide right across the street from me.

Scary. I feel pretty safe as long as I'm on the south side of I-80.

Maybe it's because I set my homepage to SFGate.com, but do the homicide numbers are abnormally high this year?

It usually fluctuates but that is what a lot of places are like in the area. We still have troubles on the homefront and it's a shame that the popular media tend to gloss over it with stories of drunken starlets.

Reality bites...hard.

i actually lived the first 5 years of my life in Richmond. born in a hospital in San Pablo, went to day care in El Sobrante, and mom took us shopping at Hilltop. now I've been a Pacifica girl since I was 10 years old. :) I don't even remember which part of Richmond we lived in. there were bars on the windows and we weren't allowed to play in the front yard.

Seems like things worked out alright for ya :)

You didn't go to private schools when you lived there, did you?

hmm, I was only there til I was 5 years old. I started Kindergarten somewhere there...but I doubt it was private school. my dad's a cheapo and I was a public school kid until I went to my nerdy little private college.
