The Downieville Pre-Ride

My "A" race for the year was the Downieville Classic Downhill Mountain Bike race. The gf - who had some excellent XC racing finishes since picking up mountain biking late last year - heard good things about it and wanted to race it with me, so we pre-rode the course three weeks ago - a week before the event. It's beautiful, painful, and an absolute roller coaster - I don't think there's any place I'd rather be riding!

That's where I started :) Paved trails, then dirt trails, then singletrack - it just kept getting better...

The trails are almost too gorgeous to race on...

We found that on the side of a trail up in Northstar. People generally don't take bikes there with less than 5" of travel, much less skinny clapped out hardtails :)

It kinda looks like the Nishiki I had in high school. I thought I was badass riding trails on it. :-)
