Twefth Night

I had a little party last night. Takolaura and her husband, Lizziebennet, and everyone's favorite aunt came. I had invited other people, but they didn't show up. We had fun anyway. We ate shepherd's pie, and two kinds of king's cake, and forgot to make the salad. :) We tasted a couple of kinds of beer and some wine, and played Scrabble in ( Read more... )

I'm glad it was fun! We had the French version of King's cake/bread in Indianapolis, and it was good. :-) (sort of like a nut pie with something similar to puff pastry on top, and a bean buried somewhere in the middle)

Yeah, our tree (replete with lights and ornaments) is staying up just for now. January needs some extra cheering up, and besides, we're still eating the cookies off the tree. :-) Maybe next weekend...

One cake was a spice cake frosted with whipped cream, with a "crown" of candied pineapple slices (cut in half) and marischino cherries.
The other one was the French one. I used frozen puff pastry (because I'm not THAT insane), but I had a bag of almonds from Costco, so I made the almond paste filling. I forgot to put the bean in. Oops. I have never had it before, so I don't know if it turned out "right," but it tasted good to us!

The almond cake thing was really good! I thought I might not like it because I don't really like marzipan, but it wasn't anything like it.
