I have a seat preference on planes...aisle. Especially when the alternative is the middle seat. I have long legs by most standards and ever since I flew while pregnant, I have discovered the benefits of being able to stretch my legs out somewhat better in an aisle seat ( Read more... )

I would trade a similar seat, but I wouldn't trade a window seat (my preference - i like to look out the window and I also like having no people on one side of me) for a middle seat. Sam and I have asked people to trade seats when we've had to sit apart on flights, but we've never asked anyone to take a shittier seat just so we could sit together. Usually it's a case of asking someone for their middle seat in exchange for a window or aisle seat.

I wouldn't trade an aisle for a middle seat but would for a window.

All I can say is Wow.

And I have done similar to Kim, only traded down if I asked for a seat switch.

I would. You DID get chumped and she sucks, but I would just because our experience flying with United was SO HORRIBLE (never, ever flying with them again in my life) -- they refused to seat us together and my daughter wasn't even three yet. We booked FAR in advance and they told us they'd take care of our seats when we checked in, which was a lie. I had to have near hysterics on one leg of the trip to make sure I was seated with my TWO year old, and on the other, a kind man (or one who just didn't want to be stuck next to my child) traded with us.

So -- based on my experience, I probably would trade.

Unless I knew right away that her kids were older. Because that's ridiculous.

Yes. Because my worry is always, "What if the plane goes down?" I wouldn't want to be the grouch who kept some terrified kid away from his mother.
