A bit under a year ago, some of Sas' neighbors moved out. They dumped their extremely friendly, darling cat in the neighborhood. Sas and I have kept an eye on him, given him pettin's on occasion and generally noticed that he's not gone feral, he's stayed a sweetie. He's an attention whore and loves on people

December/January are the highest adoption months, so if you really fear for him on the streets, this is the time to take him to a shelter, even if it is a kill shelter.
Place a found ad in the paper (they are free down here, even though you know it's an abandonment), include some phrasing of if unclaimed after seven days (NC law period for avoiding 'theft' issues) available to good home. And interview them. Do NOT put 'free', make them pay for the spay/neuter, vaccination visit, so you know they are prepared for the financial realities of pet ownership, that it's not a 'toy' for the kids.
