Biography from Utopia Pictures & Robert Schuppel's Internet Theatre Database: British born, acclaimed Canadian stage and film actor Andrew Gillies is a 14 season star of the Shaw Festival in Ontario and two seasons at the Stratford Festival. After studying theatre at Simon Fraser University in B.C., he joined the company at the Vancouver Playhouse as a leading member of the ensemble under the direction of Christopher Newton. After a regular role in the Alliance/Atlantis series The Associates, Andrew held a recurring guest-star spot on the science fiction series Mutant X, and starred in the Warner Bros. TV Series Code Name Eternity, as the arch villain Banning. Recent features films include Sophie Coppola's Virgin Suicides and Virtual Mom. TV guest appearances include "Nikita", "Twice In A Lifetime" and the new soap "Paradise Falls" (Breakthrough Film & TV Inc.) Andrew Gillies has worked with writer/director Laurence Keane since he attended the Simon Fraser Theatre Workshop in 1973, at the same time that Laurence was taking the SFU Film Workshop. Andrew participated in many of the Film Workshop projects including Keane's Roof Man and Campus Carnage. In the latter, Gillies played the lead, a teen-age hood, whose character was the basis for the role he played in 1981 - Jan Wczinski, in Keane's first feature Big Meat Eater. Later, while appearing at the Shaw Festival, he took time out to play Sir Francis Bond Head in Samuel Lount, Keane's directorial debut. Andrew has appeared in productions across Canada at all of the major theatres which include: Manitoba Theatre Centre, Theatre Calgary, National Arts Centre, Canadian Stage, the Tarragon and the Royal Alexandra Theatre among others.
