We'd like to keep the comments to vivian's entries in-character as much as possible; it's more fun that way, and more "real" for those playing along

Yes, I'm one of those people who loved the book as a teenager. When I pictured the movie, I always saw the fire that claimed Vivian's dad, and then the opening credits would be set to Dido's "Hunter" while we saw Vivian walk to school (and the Five would hastle her on the way). And then she's meet Aiden, not by accident, but by purpose, like she did in the book.
So yeah, the movie looks absolutely nothing like that, or the book for that matter.
But it does have Hugh Dancy- a point in its favor. And real wolves, which I'm glad to see.
I'll admit I just started following this community 2 nights ago, but I too am dissapointed by all the radical changes from the book to the movie.
The story in the movie seems to have lost the element of innocence that was in the book now that the characters are older. The whole high school age thing gave the impression of Vivian (and even Aiden) really taking a chance and opening up for the first time. Now that they're older that impression has kind of dissapeared. Then there's the whole thing about the majority of the movie characters not matching the appearance of the characters in the book, etc. (I agree with the person a few above talking about Gabe not looking anything like expected)
I will still see the movie, of course, as I am quite curious as to how it will turn out. If the acting is good and they manage to make the changes in the story properly, I just might like it :)
The way they have repainted Vivian's motivations in the trailer and journal make it seem very unlikely to me that the real ending will happen, and if they do keep it I'm guessing it will come out of nowhere and seem kind of shallow and moviego-ers would feel ripped off.
I've been following along, and have the advantage of not being aware of what the story line is. I think that the people writing Vivian are doing a pretty good job though.
I, like everyone else, am really disappointed in the changes too. I know they are trying to make the movie sucessful, but I think that they could have not made so many changes and it still would have been good. I can understand moving it to Europe, after all, that where people think of "magic" anymore. But making Gabriel her uncle? Yuck! On top of that, I don't think I am going to like the way they get Aiden and Vivian together... I loved that she "hunted" him in the book. It had a sexual attitude to it that seems to have disappeared.
On the other hand, I think that the marketing is pretty interesting. I have to admit that I enjoy reading Vivian's lj posts. It's a really cool way to market.
I don't know, I suppose it is possible that the movie will be a good movie... just not a good "book companion."
Also, I really really PRAY that they don't do this to The Silver Kiss. That is my favorite book since forever and I just can't stand for them to turn it into a movie (especailly if they tear it apart, like this one.)
