slapchop!

Oh, Vince of Slap Chop, you've made my day! According to Vince, I will both stop having boring tuna, AND stop having a boring life! WHAT? That's not enough? Fugeddaboudit, as Vince says, because apparently I will ALSO love his nuts! Life IS hard enough as it is, Vince, and you're right, I don't want to cry anymore. Although, Vince, I am skeptical ( Read more... )

I feel like the best example that is both approachable and sincerely enjoyable is taking an extra listen at TAL.

Took a nonfiction class a couple of years ago and we had to do a litjourn piece and I didn't do so well. I mean I got an A in the class but it was among my worst pieces. Don't even remember what I wrote about. Maybe it was my incarcerated uncle without giving away that he was my uncle.

I like stories about people who have injustice in their lives, but are also unlikeable people. It seems to be an ongoing theme with me. Cool to figure that out!

yeah that's true, I hadn't thought about TAL in such a way but that's right on. I guess literary journalism is pretty much just human interest stories fancied up a bit. anyway, we'll see. It is difficult because we have to interview our subjects and the only people i want to write about are people who i can judge without having them know that i'm judging. haha

I'm terrible in workshop classes. I get so self conscious, which I see you can relate to. My first workshop class at UT was also "reading and writing the personal narrative" (translation: "Describe to the class your deepest, darkest secret") which was an altogether mortifying experience. In the end, I really appreciated the class though. Clearly you know you're your own worst critic, but I'm sure others will not be so harsh and recognize/praise your superior writing skillz through the course of... the course. Getting feedback will surely strengthen your work and self confidence.

p.s. - I think you should write about Lauren. I mean, do you know anyone that's more animated and entertaining to write about?

i think we'll have to do a personal narrative later, and that is totally scary. and yeah, i was thinking lauren would be a good candidate too! of all people i know she seems least likely to censor herself. and also she has a lot of free time in which i could interview her.

anyway, I'm sorry I didn't come help you with ravioli! I really wanted to, but then I went to the grocery store the day before the superbowl, which was probably the worst idea I've had in my whole life, and what should have been a 30 minute experience took almost 2 hours, and then i wanted to bring macarons, and i made them but they were only so-so, and they ended up taking like 4 hours to make and then i was just like UGH no more and you'd probably already eaten all the ravioli. but what i'm saying is, now i know how to make the macarons and i plan on bringing them to lauren's thing next weekend. they will rock you.
