So I fell off the planet the other day while I was in the middle of responding to comments on my previous post. There was some kind of flu, or general random immune flare-up, or something. So! Misery, ineffective droogs and odd sleeping habits made for the perfect time to watch all of Orange is the New Black!

1) Lord, do I ever hear you on Piper's privilege. I really appreciate that the show calls her out on her shit. One of the creators gave an interview where she flatout referred to Piper as her "trojan horse" in order to tell stories about women of color. Depressing, but at least it worked?

2) Larry is THE WORST.

3) SO not thrilled with the fake-rape plot. Really don't think that the main (and only flat-out) plotline referring to sexual assault in prison needs to be a "women cry rape to get what they want" plotline, oh my fucking god.

4) Not happy with the 'romance' between the guard and the prisoner (DEAR DUDE: SHE CANNOT LEGALLY CONSENT. STOP IT), either.

5) Loved the show. Pretty much everyone who isn't Piper and Larry is awesome. Miss Claudette broke my heart.

6) And everyone else, really.

7) And people call out Piper on her shit! The "You're not a nice person" speech and the "Don't come running to me. Ever." speech were fantastic.

8) Season 2, please?

1) Yeah, I heard that too. Aww, Piper. I think she's a great character, actually? She's just someone I would want to slap in real life, so I would like to spend less time with her.

2) I wanted to like Larry! But ugh. I love Piper's brother who lives in the woods, though. LOVE.

3) I don't think I really thought about the fake rape plot that way, because I was super ill and not thinking critically. Plus, basically every interaction anyone has with Pornstache is SO RAPEY that I didn't care how they took him out of commission.

4) Yeah... I thought it was adorable at first, but it got creepy as soon as it turned sexual.

6) Everyone!! I have so much love for bit characters, like Black Cindy and Pennsatucky's dumb lackey girl and thank bloody God they gave us that one girl CO so we have one person on this show with power who we can unequivocally root for.

7) YES!! I love that everyone on the show says what I'm thinking to Piper. I just wish she would extrapolate from all those encounters that maybe

3) I agree that Pornstache was so creepy and rapey that ew ew ew. But I really hate the whole "women lie about rape to get what they want!" trope with the heat of a thousand suns, and so to see the one actual sexual assault plotline be that was not pleasing

That is an amazing tumblr thing. Captain Redway is amazing as all get-out. She is totally what Janeway would be in prison, for reals. AND, moar importantly, having her & Nicky have a mom / daughter relationship is like the convergence of ALL THE FANDOMS from when I was a teenager. My love of But I'm A Cheerleader is strong and trueeeee.

Yes to all that, plus, Alex is so frickin hot it hurts sometimes! All these reports of her not returning for season 2 make me sad. I was looking forward to lots of Nicky and Alex hookups.

I didn't even know that was Janeway. I just thought she was also attractive (the hotness of the cast is really my absolute favorite thing, followed closely by the awesome backstories of the non-Piper characters) so I went to look her up and was rather shocked. I think she's actually hotter now than when she was on ST. That Russian accent isn't hurting either...
