Texas is worse off.
Molly Ivins died today of breast cancer. She was a a hilariously sharp Texan who wrote columns and books about Texans, politics, and especially George W (she's the one who started caling him "Shrub"). A female version of Jon Stewart, sort of. I especially enjoyed "Bushwhacked." And, she's a fellow Smithie too, not that I'm biased or anything. -
Some things, you just DON'T DO
I try not to leave the house too much to run errands that involve driving unless they're a) really important, or b) I can do a bunch of errands at once. Street parking is never horrible horrible here, it probably only takes 5 or 8 minutes to find a spot during the day, but from the vantage point of being in the house, sometimes it's just not worth ( Read more... ) -

I'm very nervous about the elections today. There's been lots of talk about how the Democrats will take back the House this year, but I don't know...polls are notoriously incorrect, and who really knows what people will base their votes on today - voters have certainly made stupid choices in the past. Two Options
Option 1: Social work position, progressive organization, decent money. But, high caseload, it's far, and it's working with adults. I don't know that I actually *like* adults. Or would like working with them. I've found teenagers to be pretty engaging, but adults - not so much ( Read more... ) -
God, I wish I were white.
Then I too can pretend the U.S. has no problems with parent-less children, adopt a non-white baby from a country that needs resources/money/infrastructure/peace/medicine more than it needs people to be "saving" their kids, AND be super trendy all at the same time!!!!
