Giving birth while he is deployed..

I have a question.. Is it possible to have your husband home for the birth of your child when he is deployed? I have heard that the navy has to give them 3 weeks around the due date.. I'm 21, this is our first child and honestly I'd rather have him there for me.. I don't want to go thru labor alone.. I'm scared to death.. If you guys know anything ( Read more... )

Chances are basically none, especially if your family is around to help you. During my husband's deployment a pile of women gave birth and none of the husbands were able to come back for it... except for one whose child was stillborn.

I second the suggestion of contacting the ombudsman for ideas.

Pretty much no if its a deployment (they usually do for underways). The only way they would fly him back home is on an emergency such as your life being threatened or a stillborn birth.

We had wives who had high risk pregnancies and one was high risk with twins and no family around to help her. Others had premmies. Their husbands were not sent home. What you might be able to do is set up a video teleconference on the ship/w the hospital that he can watch it being born.

It is all up to the command, but as a rule, No.. they do not let them come home for births.. unfortunately...

Even if he doesn't get to come home for the birth, technology is great and you can actually set up a web cam in some hospital rooms. I know at some military hospitals there are special rooms where cameras can be hooked up so your DH can actually "watch" the birth. It depends on where he is stationed, but I would ask about that as well.

Thanks guys... I was just curious.. I'm not going to make a big deal about it if he can't be here for it.. I didn't know about the whole webcam thing though.. I'll be giving birth at a civilian hospital so I'll have to check into that.. Thanks for all the advice! :)
