I just want to thank anyone who was praying for my toe today. I know someone must have been, because it stopped hurting and I was able to walk normally (despite doing the shop window, which always involves a lot of athletics).
Whoever was praying, your prayers were answered and you got me through the day with virtually no discomfort. Thanks.
I think I have broken my toe, and not in some brave fight or noble enterprise but in forgetting that my bed has sticking out wooden whatsits. My toe is now stiff and painful and I'm not looking forward to spending all day on it tomorrow

I'm delighted that Blair has been defeated on the ridiculous religious hatred laws he wanted to bring in. He never had the slightest interest in protecting believers from threats, insults and violence (try being a Muslim in this country and see how eager he is to treat you like a criminal!) What he wanted was even more control over what we say

As most of you know, I'm obsessed with family history. In fact, I am almost as interested in other people's ancestors as in my own. So I had an idea (one had to come along eventually!) If there is anyone who would like me to have a go at tracing their ancestors a bit, I'm willing to have a go

It's fascinating how Hamas, by winning an election, have revealed the hypocrisy of many people who paid lip service to the idea of democracy in the Middle East. The American administration were apparently thrown into confusion by the "unexpected" result

I waited a long time to see if either of them were going to get over their tantrum, but they haven't, so I'm removing autumneyes and anarkian from my friends list. Anarkian is filling pages of my friends list with very odd posts and frankly, I think they've both been too embarrassed to get in touch since they made fools of themselves stabbing me

I just watched Stephen Fry on "Who Do You Think You Are?" tracing his family tree. I've always liked him, and I think even more highly of him now I've seen how he responded to the sad stories of parts of his family. Some of his relatives died in Auschwitz, his own line surviving only because one of them got a job in England
