Chernobyl Urbex

Sep 06, 2006 16:01

I'm making a list of Urbex places I need to visit before I retire. Chernobyl may have made the list.

Check out this site about:

A Girl
A Geiger Counter
A Motorcycle
A Camera

She makes a photo documentary of her motorcycle tour of Chernobyl and the surrounding areas.

Yeah... I'm in on this a little late, but although that site is fake I've always found it fascinating anyway.

So, I dunno... maybe it's just a psychological thing, but at some point a few months ago someone linked me to a Google maps satellite image of the Chernobyl/Pripyat site. Something about this is just goddamned creepy:

You can see the two reactor silos there, one of which is (obviously) no longer present.

Damn! You've already done half the recon.

Anyone got any contacts they give me in that area?

lol... and how sad is it that despite my recon, I've never been out on any actual urbex runs... at least not since I like like... 8 and living in the country. I'll probably try to start out somewhere with less fallout ;)

It seems like there are a number of Russians in the abandonedplaces community... I know Russia is huge, but maybe oleg44 knows someone. He's been really active latey, posting a ton of great pictures.

You would certainly make a wonderful travel partner.

Can you speak Russian?

*blush*

Why thank you!

And sadly no...

But I could learn!

My friend Len would be a good person to take along with us...he speaks 6 different languages including Russian...the majority of them being slavic-ish...

I'm certain slavic-ish is a real word.

Yup!

This reminds me of that play by William Shakespeare, about the nuclear reactor failure and the abandonment of the Russian town.

What was it called again? Oh yeah.

Chernobyl Kinsmen.

I saw that site a couple years ago and though they say its a fake the pictures look real to me and Pripyat is on my List of Places I Need To Go. It has to be the most depressing place on earth! <3! I will, however, be waiting to go to any highly radioactive places until after I have had my alotted number of babies. So it will be a few years. But its a plan!

I think you should go, and bring back many pictures and stories of your adventures!
