As I toasted in 2008 with a glass of Bucks Fizz, I honestly didn't think anything big was going to happen this year. Today, for the first time in my life, I bought alcohol in the supermarket and didn't get IDed. (Keep in mind that the legal drinking age here in England is only 18... or is it 16? I don't think most people are even sure).

Specifically I bought a bottle of cheap vodka. Ironically it wasn't even to drink but to make an essential oil room spray

Anyone around?

Am feeling very grown-up now, although in many ways I'll always be a Peter Pan. Mostly I'm working very hard as am hoping to get promoted in October. My appraisal is next week so, if it goes well, I should be able to relax a little. I'll keep you all

My brother just came in and announced that he hasn't managed to get any presents for anyone because he didn't know the shops were going to shut as early as 4pm.

Thanks so much for all your Thanksgiving dinner ideas. My dinner was such a success that I made it again on Sunday for some different friends. Maybe next year I'll even be brave enough to try sweet potatoes with marshmallows (a distinctly un-English thing).
