I was just confirmed this morning for a three-day camel trek through the desert from Wadi Rum to Aqaba, Jordan. I'm about to piss myself with excitement. This is no AF joke.

I'm also spending three days in Petra...you know...the closing scene from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

Am I allowed a squee?

Neither do I.

But I believe I warned you all that I was going to get my slacker life back.

I will soon have my slacker life back. Yesterday was Election Day, and the Tukwila schools technology levy is getting a 53.22 approval rate. Re-reading "The Hobbit" for the first time in ages, I had forgotten how quickly the story moves along, compared to "The Lord of the Rings." In particular, I was surprised at how soon the party arrives at the trolls' camp. Growing old and forgetful has the advantage that pleasant experiences of the past are discovered anew.

Just to prove...once again...what a big, old history nerd I am, the story in the New York Times about the discovery of a huge hoard of Anglo-Saxon artifacts in Staffordshire made me giddy with excitement.
