The darkness of his bedroom was disrupted only by the soft glow of the city as Colby stared at his ceiling, one arm draped over his forehead - his other hand resting against his bare chest.

He replayed the day’s events in his mind, and every time he wished things were different.

He’d been given no choice. He had to confess the exact nature of his relationship with Callie.

Don was irate, lecturing him about withholding information and threatening to take him off the case. But Don’s anger didn’t bother Colby as much as watching Lt. Walker turn fifteen shades of red before David escorted Gary from the building to get some air.

Yes, the relationship was strongly physical… but there was more - more he wished he had words to explain. There was a connection he’d not felt since before the war… before his life changed forever.

He exhaled heavily as he tossed himself over with a thud, covering his head with his pillow as though that would drown out his thoughts.

She’d been gone 24 hours and every minute that passed was another minute her life was in danger without certainty of survival. He knew her enough to know she was a fighter. She would do what she needed to stay alive. But he also knew that wasn’t always enough. Sometimes you had to believe your team would come rescue you.

He whispered her name aloud and he knew. There would be no sleep for him tonight. He should be working on the case instead of lying there, remembering every moment he shared with her.

With a jerk, he tossed the sheets aside and moved to get dressed. He was going to the office. There had to be something he could do to find her… before it was too late.
