The journey has truly begun. We are in Dublin, Ireland. It's so beautiful here, everything is so much older than it is in Canada. The buildings are all probably over 200 years old in the city centre, and many of them are way older than that. Today was so weird. Here in Guanajuato there is a festival every year today called something like the Festival of the Rains or something. Everyone in the town (and us) took a pilgramage up to the top of a mountain just outside of town to pray for rain in the upcoming year. I'm in a little university town built entirely into a ravine. It's very pretty, there are tons of tiny little kissing allies that climb up the sides of the ravine, twisting between houses that have been built one room at a time. Dogs and chickens live on the roofs of these houses and never stop making noise, night or day. Neither does anyone else ( Read more... )

Mexico is crazy. I have never seen so many people in uniform, such volume of pretty but useless crap in one place, so many beggars or so many mangy dogs. Yesterday I held my baby nephew for the first time. He was a cesarian baby so his head was perfectly round and he had a soother in his mouth and while he was sucking on it his nose kept scrunching and unscrunching very rhythmically.
