I'm leaving for Dallas in a bit. I'll stay at my brother's tonight, then spend the next two days in Greenville--end of Phase 1, yay! Thursday, I'll be in DeSoto, taking a cultural diversity class, and Friday, I'll be touring libraries and lunching with former co-workers in the North Dallas area. I'm feeling kind of somber today. Today was the funeral of Dorothy Green. I was engaged for awhile to her youngest son; even though we broke up a decade ago, I remained close to the family, and especially to "Dia," as everyone called her. She had been hospitalized late last week with organ failure, and refused life support. She said she was tired ( Read more... )

We had a really nice weekend with bittercupojoe and creamnsugar, who came to visit for the weekend. Our first guests--yay! Yesterday, we celebrated our friend Dane's birthday by going to Salt Lick BBQ, as per his wishes. stinabat was able to join us, which was a real treat, as she's been incredibly busy with her novel and stories--the prices of success. I spent last week in Greenville and Dallas--the usual projects. I tried a new motel this time--half the price of the Best Western but advertising all the amenities. I understood where they cut prices as I was toweling off after taking a shower; the towels were so rough that they felt like dry pumice. So, after last week's slump due to a mildish case of bronchitis, I'm back! I've had an incredibly productive couple of days, which makes me happy. Among my accomplishments:

• Got set up for the online cataloging courses I'll be co-teaching at UNT
• Put away the rest of the party dishes
• Had my car radio fixed--for free! (yep, it was a fuse)
