Fête des Lumières
Went to Lyon last weekend. Ended up taking the plane instead of the TGV. Air France seemed like good value at €129, but that was before the reality of long delays in Paris Orly and poor food on board. Ah well. I got into Lyon at about 11:30pm, and only sat down to dinner with friends at midnight. The weekend was excellent from that point ( Read more... ) -

I learned a new acronym last week (the French have one for everything) - PAI, or 'produits agroalimentaires intermédiaires' - which roughly translates as 'ingredients'. I was at a trade fair wholly devoted to them, you see. From cubes of ham to frozen duck livers, they had it all. Our stand was sadly lacking in, errr, anything at all, really. I ( Read more... ) -

Just downloaded Rinôçérôse's first album. I did it illegally, but I bought it years ago and then it was stolen, so I feel I am blameless. It's fantastic music. I think they disappeared up their arses a bit with their subsequent works, but this one's a real classic. I won't mention the golden age of French house music, but... Ooops ( Read more... ) -

Further to yesterday's sermon on France and the French, today I read a very interesting article in Les Echos (a fine paper, and sister publication of the FT, so I'm told) about the French trade deficit, which is currently hovering ominously around -€30 billion, despite French exports of over €300 billion in 2006.
