The way I look at it, there's never anything wrong with exploring alternative faiths - there's also nothing wrong with deciding that it's really not for you once you've learned all the ins and outs of it. Don't feel that you've betrayed your beliefs - look on it as a means of expanding on them and growing spiritually.
Really glad to hear that Herbie is still going strong, I was thinking about him the other day and that huge stick he was walking around with at our handfasting, trying to knock people's legs from under them! :D *hugs*
I can see how you would feel that, but at the same time, has it re-established a stronger connection with what you really believe? Don't look at what you've done in the past or the mistakes you've made, but what you've learned and where you're going. Don't be so hard on yourself that you forget to appreciate what you do have and what you believe.
I'll have to second what already has been said - no matter what you choose to do, it's not betraying your friends or having them feel you're not a good person. After all, only God can judge you, right? Don't worry, I don't think anyone of your friends feel you've let them down. *hugs*
Actually I think it's useful to explore the faiths that we might often object too, it helps to see that there is more to them than the bits we see as intrisically wrong. It makes it easier to understand that the followers of other faiths, even the totally crack pot ones, get *something* from them and are not necessarily evil or ignorant.
The power of community and companionship and feeling valued is a strong one.
I do feel it is a shame that you are not getting that sense of community and belonging from your pagan beliefs, but I am glad that you found it somewhere for a while and hope that it will encourage you to look for it elsewhere now that you have remembered how good it is.
