That's good you stood your ground. It's hard sometimes to do that with family. That's sad and crazy he's still taking money from your mom :/

Mom still sending him money used to REALLY bother me. It doesn't so much now: he has a chronic condition,. and they need the money to survive.

It's just when we squabble (like in the above), I feel less charitable.

I had to ask my dad for money once. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Like your mom, he chewed me out, but he helped and I made sure I never had to ask him again.

Oh, it was AWFUL.

I learned a lot from it, but it was completely not fun.

Sometimes it’s best not to get in the middle of family issues, for sure.

I try to avoid being in the middle whenever I can. It's not always easy to do, though.

"It's not my mess." Those are words for the ages. You did a great job standing firm. I'm glad your brother got the help he needed, but I hope he learned to own his own problems with your mother. I love the way you write these anecdotes!

I wonder about my brother and mother's relationship.

There are all sorts of issues there, but they never seem to try to resolve them.

At least, through all the fighting mom and I did, we worked things out.
