This is an interesting post. One of the things I appreciated about "Junebug" is I feel it really gave dignity to every character, and it showed their subtleties so well and without any condescension on either side. They felt like real characters and both the city and small-town dwellers had their noticeable flaws and good qualities. It reminded me very much of my cousins and family in rural Ohio where my parents are from, and the differences I perceive when I spend time with them--they work on a farm and in many ways are stronger and tougher than I will ever be. That's interesting what you said about voting too--I think it was the critic from "The Reader" that called this the perfect movie about the red state-blue state divide. I think that's very true.

Oh! I just got Junebug on Netflix. I wanted to see it when it was here at the theater. We should be more frequent movie buddies, for sure.

Absolutely we should...I'm seriously thinking of hosting a movie night or two soon (if I'm ever home long enough). You're definitely invited...also I just sent you a Netflix friend invite :-)
