Ger (yurt)
The ger is done, apart from eight sewn gromets. Whee. Steep sided roof (less wind, more rain than Mongolia), high crowned tono (to draw smoke), ca 3.5 m diameter, and a "blanket" door (actually two layers of felt with a layer of canvas hidden between). Yurts
The walls of the yurt (well, actually a ger) is almost done, the tono (central wheel) is almost done, iow in a couple of days at most I'll be able to sew the cover (canvas only for now, the felt will probably have to wait). Then impregnation against rain, and life will be good ( Read more... ) -

Unemployed (almost) once more
Final day at the second of my two jobs. IIRC I technically work until the 16th, so that's when I'll have to go and get listed as unemployed in order to qualify for benefits. There is still some money to come, but a 95% (30+65%) spring term and noe during fall makes life complex over the summer. The 30% job 90 minutes drive away want me back fall. ( Read more... ) -
Validating exam questions?
I just realized I ought to validate my exam questions. Now I just have to decide what statistical method to use for correlating course grade, exam grade and question score (all of it non-parametric data!). And the data-entry for each question, of course. Chi-squared should be robust enought, but is it optimal? -
Sometimes you are happy when they flunk the test...
Mostly when you have a lot of tests to grade, the ones that are so quick and easy to grade are welcome; "no, nope, what were you thinking?, do try reading the text, pay at least some attention in class next time -- trust me, it will help, no, no, if you have nothing to say please leave the paper blank next time... Not much happening here; too much work, no time, and too many projects. It should ease up soonish, and then be time for some projects. Some hides that is taking up space in the freezer, need to get hold of a couple of deer hides and braintan them, an old moose needs to be re-brained and finished or I'll have no choice about going barefoot ( Read more... )
