Was toile de joy ever used for a gown in the 18th century?
I have a lovely miniature that is begging to be made into a doll's dress but off the top of my head I am thinking that Toile was only for draperies and other furnishing uses.

Not that this doll is a reproduction or anything. (anthropomorphic)

I seem to remember seeing a sleeved waistcoat where the sleeves laced on.
I have been through all my book and found in Eighteenth Century Clothing at Williamsburg on page 59 is a waistcoat with eyelets on the shoulder but has lost it's sleeves from 1760-80.

I originally made this gown years ago, when The Patriot movie first came out. (The movie is the RevWar on acid, but I love it anyway. :p)  This gown was definitely the costume highlight of the movie for me. ^^ I made the gown before I really had any idea of how to make a gown historically accurate.

I have 4 3/4 yards of a silk that is 27" wide. The wavy stripes are printed and the flowers are machine embroidered. It was a very good price!
