Well, huzzah. I really have nothing to report, but kinda felt like writing anyway. Ho hum, pig's bum. Thanks y'all for the career input - it inspired a few heart to hearts, and that can never hurt  - why, oh why can't we all be more open and loving all the time? Because it's exhausting, I know ( Read more... )

Man, I am all about the comfortable shoes. I can't take the lower back pain from heels. Or the blisters. Screw it.

My current fav sandals look something like this:

...only with little embroidered flowers on them. Teehee...they're so damn comfortable, and they're Israeli, so I can get in touch with my inner Jew or whatever.

We should all try harder to get in touch with our inner Jew, it's true.

My friend Marlis, who used to sell comfy shoes, would drool over those. She actually had Birkenstocks painted white to wear to her wedding so she wouldn't have to wear uncomfy shoes.

Let's stop ourselves before we only shop at Naturalizer though.

Oh, we have many options before it comes to Naturalizer. Rieker (German company), Ecco (Danish), Clark, Geox, etc... Do you have Walking on a Cloud and Feet First in Edmonton?

I've tried on a few of those but never purchased. I found Rockports at Winners though, and I've worn them almost every day since. Have you tried Born? I bought these to celebrate being done, when I couldn't commit to any painfully beautiful Gravity Pope shoes:

http://www.bornshoes.com/asp/shoepage.asp?itemid=W0027 - they are uber comfy, and the interchangeable flowers fulfill my OCD matching needs. The flowers are actually more vivid than in the pic.

Now I really want these, in green:

Are Walking on a Cloud and Feet First stores or shoes companies? I am unfamiliar with their work.

a dear friend named jpr once told me you can always spot someone from saskatoon, because no matter how hip they dress, they are always a little bit hick.

so maybe its your fate, and fast becoming my reality...? afterall, i also enjoy a good "longsleeved/shortsleeved" combo.

Hmm. I'm not convinced on the hicks from S'toon business. I think the one thing many people from or living in S'toon have is a lack of pretention. "Hicks," to me, are closed-minded and opinionated on things they haven't really thought through. But I generally find most S'tooners are very open-minded, well-travelled, well-read, cultured, etc.

I digress. Hicks come in all sorts of clothing - some are the best dressed you'll see (okay, maybe not the most alternative). Those who try too hard on fashion - be it alternative, hippy, urban, metrosexual, etc - look a bit silly in Saskatoon, generally. Because everyone else is often stylishly "whatevs." It's just more laid back than E-town, and AB in general, at least I find it that way...

I think my problem stems more from being the only child of parents who flourished in the 1980s. My mom was very stylish back then. She wore a lot of pumps.

But the long/short shirt thing will always seem stylish to me.

the hick thing was purely in relation to clothing and not the personality of saskatonians.

Okay *blush*. I get a little over-sensitive about hick comments, as I seem to get them automatically when I say where I'm from...

Woohoo! I am all about the comfortable shoes. Naturalizer is where it's at, so what if I'm 50 years younger than the target population demographic?! I also definitely started wearing clothes that actually matched eachother in my 3rd year of university.....

Ack! After I just said that thing about Naturalizer above! My bad, Flute. I wore Naturalizers to my high school grad, and they may be some of the most hideous shoes I've ever owned (pearlized pumps!)...and they weren't even that comfy (and we didn't even dance that much, Mennonite school).

I have always been a slave to matching, I think it's a small slice of OCD. My socks ALWAYS had to match my shirt throughout my elementary and high school years.

There are comfy shoes for us young'uns too! Have you checked out Rockport, Rocketdog, or Born shoes?? They are vair vair comfy but also tres fun. Although to be fair, Naturalizer has come a long way in the last few years.

No worries Pants :) I actually kind of find it funny that I am usually trying on shoes next to someone who could potentially be my grandmother. It's just that I wear orthotics in my shoes and I've found (thus far) that Naturalizer shoes accomodate them really well. However, my plan for my annual shoe purchase this year is to possibly check out "Feet First" when I go back to ontario. Just out of curiousity, what are these Rocketdog or Born shoes like??? I have tried many a pair of Rockports and sadly have found none wide enough for my chubby hobbit-esque feet.

Sorry, Pants. But sensible shoes are for suckers.
Mama-Shoes alwasy says, "fashion over function."
Wise words.

Mama-Shoes was perhaps not born with...special toes (I won't go into it, it's a little sad), nor had a broken toe set wrong. It's easy to be all "fashion over function" when you've got nice feet, and can walk the next day. Ooo, that sounded catty but wasn't meant to be. Damn, I wish something could be done about typing inflections.

My shoes are now both fashionable and comfy, it just takes time and a little more money...so no more Payless for moi - "only the best will do."

Hey now. I don't have "nice feet" either. I am prone to blisters. But if I love the shoes, and I mean loooooove the shoes, I'll do anything to have them. Even if I have to hobble.

p.s. I too have an improperly set toe. When I was 14 I dropped a rowing machine on it. When I was home at Easter, papa-shoes said, "Hey, that toe looks like it was broken at one time." To which I replied, "It was." And he replied, "Oh. What did I do about it?" and I said, "You taped it to my other toe with some scotch tape and told me to suck it up. Hence the awkwardness of said toe." He laughed and said, "That sounds like something I'd do." Nice. Stay classy, dad.

Seriously, we're having a discussion about feet on LJ. How tragic are we?

After the wedding, and even after wearing reasonably comfy heels, toes on both feet went numb for over two months, even though I took good care. It scared me. I don't want to have to get toes removed and not be able to wear sandals and have Sean and the kittens call me "Stubby Pants" - I have to be preventative.
