"You look… beautiful."">
Shizuna was nearly hyperventilating in the powder room. Kana handed her a paper bag, just in case. They were at the church, a couple of hours before the wedding, already dressed. The bridesmaids all wore matching white corsets on different dresses, but each had their own styles. Kana recognized only 2 of the other bridesmaids. The others were from Shizuna's rich circle of friends, no doubt.

"K-Kana…"

"Yeah?"

"I know I've checked a million times but can you find Hikaru and see if he has the rings?" Kana was on the verge of tears. "I'm so sorry I'm so paranoid but I'm just so scared something will go wrong."

Kana sighed. Bridezillas.

"No problem, sweetheart, hold on."

She exited the room and went to the holding room for the groomsmen. She knocked once and entered.

Hikaru looked up from the mirror towards the door, expecting Yabu or someone to come in. Instead, there was a gorgeous lady in the doorway, dressed in a sleek, flowing navy gown. And damn she had good legs.

"Sorry, the lady's room is the other way."

She chuckled.

"You don't recognize me?"

Now he did.

"…Shit, Kana?"

She blinked, perhaps surprised at being addressed by her first name. She looked down at her dress and smoothened out a few invisible creases.

"Is something wrong with my dress?"

"You look… beautiful."

She wished she could find the words to describe him. Dressed in one of his best black suits with his hair was in an organized, styled mess, he could have taken anyone's breath away. It didn't help that the top button of his shirt was open and his bow tie was undone. No wonder the other bridesmaids were giggling when they came back from the men's room just now.

She felt a sudden pang of jealousy.

"You look great too."

He pointed to the bow tie.

"Think you can help me with this? I undid it to go for a smoke just now but no one is around and I can't get it back--"

He shut up when her hands grazed against his jaw as she nimbly buttoned his shirt up and began retying the bow tie. He bowed his head down slightly to look at her. She kept her eyes on the task, not once looking up. He entertained himself watching her eyelashes flutter whenever she blinked.

There was silence.

She adjusted her handiwork and slid her hands down his chest, flattening out his shirt and jacket. Before she could take her hands away, he swept a curled lock of hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear.

"You look better like this," he whispered. "And I liked your hair straight--"

And she cut him off with a kiss. Out of the middle of nowhere. He could feel gloss on her lips but it hardly mattered. Her lips moved against his in ways that sent him spiraling back in time. He sighed into the kiss and held her close by her waist and the back of her neck.

When they broke apart, she still refused to look up. He cupped her cheek but she turned away.

"Do you have the rings ready?"

"Y-Yeah, you should have felt it. They're here," he patted his chest pocket.

"I--I should go. I'm sorry--"

She was out the door before he could find his words.

"Your lipstick is smudged," one of the bridesmaid told Kana as they streamed out of the room. She made a quick dash to the mirrors to fix her face. The lock of hair had come loose again, and she tucked it behind her ear quickly. It did look better.

She stood directly opposite the best man. She liked his look better when the bow tie was undone. Her eyes scanned his outfit and she spotted a tiny pink lipstick mark on his collar. She cringed.

He refused to meet her eye though, and kept his gaze on the doors at the end of the aisle. She felt empty and cold for doing something so out of line and now she was paying the price. She didn't know if he'd ever look at her again. On one hand it was comforting. On the other, she was drained.

She dreaded the thought of having his girlfriend find out.

Sunk in thought, she almost didn't notice when the church organ began to play.

He watched her from the corner of his eye stealthily. She had on a wide smile--but it wasn't sincere, there was a tinge of sadness to it--as she looked on at her best friend caught in a wedding kiss.

She wanted to be a bride. It was written all over her face.

But a siren in his brain went off--he didn't want that. He didn't want her to be anyone's bride. He wouldn't be able to watch.

He suddenly decided.

Some other girl in the crowd in a pink dress caught the bouquet. Shizuna mouthed a "Sorry" at Kana, who shook her head.

She caught Hikaru's smile in the sidelines.

Reception.

Some guests were ballroom dancing in an area cleared in the middle of the room, others milling around and chatting now that dinner was over. The sun was setting on the horizon. She stood with her third flute of expensive champagne in hand near the windows, watching Shizuna twirl across the dance floor with Takaki.

There was a sudden puff of air near her ear and she flinched. Hikaru laughed, taking his spot beside her.

"That wasn't funny."

"Sure it was," he took a swig from his flute. "You should have seen your face."

She let it go and relaxed. He just broke the ice that had formed between them before the ceremony. His warmth was like that.

"They look happy."

"Mm," she nodded. "I'm happy for her."

"Are you?"

"Of course," she frowned.

"Me too, for Takaki I mean. I never thought I'd see the day he treats a lady like a lady."

"They say birds of a feather flock together."

He barked out a laugh and shook his head.

"Am I that much of a bad guy in your head?"

"Depends--are you like Takaki before he met Shizuna or after he met Shizuna?"

"Maybe a bit of both?"

"Bastard."

"Hey come on--" he laid his hands out facing her. "You know what I'm like."

"I guess I do."

"Is senpai waiting on you again today or…"

"Yaotome."

"Sorry," he chuckled. "Couldn't help it. You're free, then?"

"Apart from this--" she waved to the crowd in front of them. "Yes."

He scanned the crowd quickly for a second and suddenly leaned in. He whispered right in her ear.

"30th floor. I'll be at the lift lobby. 15mins. You can choose not to come but… I'll wait."

He pulled back and ran a ghostly touch over her forearm covered in goosebumps. He held her attention with a serious gaze--one she hadn't seen in years. She felt her heart catch in her throat.

Suddenly, he was all smiles again. He raised his flute as a toast and strode away to where his friends stood.

Maybe she had half expected this to happen, because she didn't find it in herself to scream when she was yanked by her wrist and then pinned against the wall by him the moment she rounded the corner. Suddenly his lips were on hers--demanding, desperate, overpowering her. The moment was filled with whatever emotions and tension that had built up between them over the past few weeks. She let loose a moan and buried her fingers in his hair, like so many times before, taking in everything that she knew so well once. She was his. Always had been.

Sparks flew. Sparks flew everywhere and exploded behind her closed eyelids when he ran his teeth lightly over her shoulder. He had her pressed against the wall, hands gripping her hips and grinding up against her in a way that would have elicited thoughts of indecency in anyone. But everything felt right. And then wrong. Sanity kicked in, and she grasped the front of his jacket to push him back. His tie had come undone and his collarbones were right in her face. She swallowed hard.

"D-Don't, this is wrong."

"Why?" he breathed in a husky voice that sent goosebumps straight up her arm again, trying to advance again but only managing to brush against her cheek. "I want you. Now."

"Yatome--"

"Don't call me that," he mumbled as he ran his fingers over her arm. "You're trembling."

"…People might see us," she hissed. "What the heck are you doing?! If we get caught it'll look bad for Shizuna--"

However much she pushed him back, he wouldn't budge. He then drew a keycard from his pocket and waved it in front of her face with a hint of a smirk.

"I got us a room. Come on."

"You're drunk. I can taste champagne on your tongue."

He laughed--deep within his throat and her resolve was already slipping.

"That has to be the dirtiest thing you've ever said to me--ever. I had 2 flutes. That's hardly enough."

"Okay so maybe I've had a few too many then," she pushed him again. "P-Please, I'm sorry about the kiss earlier, I'm really sorry--"

He moved in once more, trailing his lips to her ear where he whispered her name, just once.

"Kana, shh."

That was enough to break her. She could feel him smirking by her ear as her grip tightened on his shirt.

"One night."

"This is wrong, Hikaru."

"I know."

"What happens after this?"

"I don't know. I don't care right now. We'll deal with that in the morning. Come on. It's just you and me now."
