[after her amazing performance of Smelly Cat, Max is going to step down and grab herself a cup of coffee and chill with her friends. Feel free to come by and pay her compliments.

Or tell her she was terrible. There's no guarantee she'll believe you, though.]

[Conan cringes. He'd come by the Perk to get some coffee. Strong and black, if he could get it. Only to hear THAT performance.

Although he was tone deaf, Conan had sharp ears for music. He could hear every time a note was out of tune even a little. This was definitely a disadvantage right now.]

...That was interesting?

[beams up at him, because one does always love praise of their talent]

Thanks!

Why that song?

I wrote it myself.

Because ... I wanted to write a song and I felt inspired?

What inspired that?

My cat. His name is Zack. And I was thinking of this cat back home who was really smelly, and it just all ...

[Of course, Julia knows all of the words to "Smelly Cat". It's kind of a natural consequence of hearing it 5,000 times (whether she really wanted to or not).

But right now? She'd take "Smelly Cat". She'd take anything to distract her from what transpired a couple of days ago.

The performance is over by the time she arrives. As soon as she spots Max, she'll come over and take a seat at the table too.]

How was the turnout?

[glances up at her with a smile and nods]

It was good. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

[Somehow, she doubts that. But, hey, she's not about to be the one to completely burst her friend's bubble. Max's optimism is the kind she needs right now.

She returns a small smile.]

I'm glad.

[And now she'll be turning to see if she can get someone's attention. Coffee is a good idea, isn't it?]

[Optimism is what she can provide. Once Julia's done ordering her coffee, she inches closer]

So. How're you doing?

[Sigh. The questions. Always the questions. She appreciates the concern, sure, but after a while, they tend to get old.

She puts off answering for as long as she can.]

I'm... fine.

[Lies.]
