Five ways Special Projects Almost Wasn't (5/5)

This is a challenge fic written for
sanadafaye.  She  who made this awesome banner.

In exchange for the wonderful banner, I offered to write her fic.  So she asked for a five-times story.  The challenge was to write five ways in which one little change would have affected the special projects universe.  In each of these stories, one minor thing happened, and sent our characters down a different path than the one they're currently walking.

Warning: These are not the characters you know.  Because of one minor change, they walk a different path.

5. Dean and Chloe never saw one another again.

She hadn't meant to fall for Oliver Queen. They had a sarcastic relationship that bordered at times on hate. And there was the whole thing where he'd dated Lois. Add to that the way Chloe and Dean had been dancing around each other.

But she'd been at loose ends once the infiltration of Luthorcorp was over with. Dean hadn't cared enough to stick around when she'd finished her mission, and Ollie had offered to help her keep looking for traces of the cloning facilities and for Laney Sullivan.

Then he'd been there to hold her through the night terrors when they actually found her clone: catatonic and institutionalized in Arkham asylum.

When the day she'd been anticipating came: the day that the vampires actually contacted her for a story, Ollie and Clark had gone with her to the interview to safeguard her wellbeing. It had been a good thing that they did: the meeting had been a trap. If not for Clark, they might have been caught in the middle of an all out war. Instead, the vampire community found out the hard way not to mess with Chloe Sullivan, or her boys.

Later, when members of Congress and eventually the United Nations started turning up with black eyes, it was Chloe's contacts in the hunter community, combined with the political clout that came with Queen Industry money that allowed them to work with Martha Kent to put together a sting operation to get the demons all at once. It had been one of those tiring, messy days. With hand-to-hand fighting in the halls of the House, Senate, and surprisingly, among the secret service's security detail.

At one point, she'd been speaking over the com to Ollie, when his line suddenly went dead. Without thinking about it, she'd ripped off her headset, passed it to Oracle and the new kid, Isaac, and run full-tilt out of the van parked down the block, vaulted three security checkpoints and shook off bullets that security had fired at her when she didn't stop.

She'd found Ollie on the ground, being menaced by the black-eyed senior senator from Montana (and why were all the weird things from Montana?), and laid him out with a thick volume on tax code. While he was still down, she rattled off the exorcism ritual that Sam had drilled into her head back when she was still traveling with the Winchester brothers.

As the black smoke dissipated, she grinned down at Oliver Queen.

“You would be lost without me.”

“Good thing I'm never far from my sidekick,” Ollie smirked back.

“Last I saw, this party was mine. So who’s the sidekick now, sidekick?” She shook her head and placed one hand on her hip.

Oliver groaned as she helped him to his feet. “If I let you think I'm the sidekick, would you let me kiss you?”

“I'll think about it,” Chloe muttered before stealing a quick, hesitant peck on his lips.

Oliver blinked in surprise. “That's thinking about it?”

“I said I would think about letting you kiss me. That was me kissing you.” She grinned at him. “It's an important distinction.”

Ollie laughed at that. “No arguments here. You're the boss.”

“And don't you forget it,” Chloe grinned at him.

A/N:  I'm a die-hard Chlean girl.  But this one was for the Chollie girls out there.  I do see his appeal. XD
