iPod Hell

So, Mom very generously offered to trade laptops with me, and as her's is much nicer and newer than mine, I readily accepted. All was fine and dandy until I reinstalled itunes and my ipod on the new laptop. As I was setting things up an innoucuous looking pop-up asked me if I wanted my iPod to now be associated with this version of itunes. I was ( Read more... )

Yeah, you have to be careful - never let iTunes autoupdate. Do you have the stuff on your old laptop? You can always transfer it back.

Unfortunately, my old laptop ran out of space a while back, and, being the genuis that I am, I deleted all of my songs thinking they were safe in my ipod anyway. So yeah, this is partially my fault, but I'm still going to be pissed off at Apple.

See, updates are fun! I was shocked/horrified/sympathetic to learn of your loss! Good luck...

Oh, and I have a Zen. It's superior in every way.

First of all, the songs on your iPod will not be gone until overwritten with new data. You just can't see them now because the new version of iTunes doesn't know they exist. If worst comes to worst you may have to reassign names to all the songs, but all the data should still be there.

That said, I have a Creative Labs mp3 player and I love it. My husband also got one a while back. His is a small USB device that just stores and plays music; mine is a larger "jukebox" that not only stores and plays, but also records and edits. Either is good, but I think the smaller device is more suitable for most people's needs. It's what I would have purchased myself, but my parents gave me the jukebox as a gift, so budget became a non-issue.

I've heard those Zen players are pretty nifty. That's what I was going to get if I didn't get an iPod. But I decided I don't need an mp3 player, because they are for suckers.

That being said, 5 bucks and free poker lessons for your iPod.

Hey Michelle, I still have the Pina Colada song is you need that.

My iBook once ate up all of my songs too... I viewed as divine retribution for how I'd acquired most of them....
