I just started reading your fic today. I should have left comments on each chapter as each was wonderful and deserving of comments but I confess I was enjoying your story so much that I ran like a 6 year old to the next chapter.

You say that this is your first BBM fic but I can't believe that this is your first time as a writer. Your storytelling skills are just so good! You obviously know quite a lot about the old west and have made it so interesting. I love your characterizations of Jack and Ennis and feel like you have really captured their essence. I just loved how you developed their friendship, for these two lonely boys a friendship with someone who understands them is priceless. You captured their longing for each other just beautifully! When Jack tells Ennis that he could have him I nearly swooned and the aftermath of taking "that risk" and Jack's fear that he has lost his only real friend was just heartbreaking.

Wonderfully, wonderfully done and I really look forward to your next chapter!

This is my first BBM fic but as you say not the first time I've written. I just haven't done it in a long while so I'm still feeling a bit rusty.

I'm glad you like the characterization and that you feel I captured the essence of the characters. I'm trying to be as true to them as I can within the frame work of the au!au setting while still showing them as younger versions of themselves.

Terrific chapter - angst and all! You've hit just the right notes - Ennis's conflicting emotions, his desperation and Jack's certainty and desire dashed by his hurt and sadness. I was glad to see Charlie again, too. I think both Ennis and Jack can benefit from his friendship and experience. Charlie will understand Ennis's turmoil - it's not just that he's fearful or stubborn, etc. - there's a whole set of very complex issues involved here that aren't quickly resolved. This is really fine writing!
