Gotta get these thoughts out into the open...

Simply so that they don't sit and fester in my mind...

Heh, I understand all too well your worries about what you're going to do with your life. I have the same thing, only complicated by eclectic interests. I mean sure, I am a good aerospace engineer, and I love the subject matter, but I have other passions too. I have writing, I have origami, I have my game design...so what does that mean for the rest of my life? In 2009 when I finally leave this university (with 3 degrees), where do I go? Into industry, struggle with my other passions and completely disregard aerospace, what?

*shrugs* I have time, 3.5 years to be exact. But still, it's something that troubles me occasionally.

***HUG***

I understand. I have similar worries...right now I worry about what to do in Grad school. Should I settle for a Masters or go for the Ph.D.? Do I really want to teach and do research some day? Etc. etc.

"Don't worry, be happy"

Also, to refute you. "See, if you have a girlfriend, that would be proof positive that you're at least a decent human being..." Having a girlfriend proves nothing other than that you have a girlfriend. I've known plenty of sleezy guys to have girlfriends, as well as decent guys, like Nick has Sarah.
You are most definitely a decent human being, Jason, whether you are in a relationship or not.

And I know that you can acomplish anything you want as long as you put your mind to it. Whether it's Grad school or a job or going off to the circus to become a world famous trapeez artist. Jason, the only thing you have to worry about is me offering you celery, 'cause I have plenty in the fridge if you want some ;)

having a significant other is not proof that someone's a decent human being. All it means is that there is someone who thinks a similar way to you, good or bad (my mind goes to the Elton's here in "Emma," if you've ever happened to read that.)
