Brief H/D Timeline:

Pre-2000

On June 30, 1997, the first Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published.
On July 3, 1998, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was published.
On July 8, 1999, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was published.
On September 4, 1999, Harry Potter and the Man of Unknown by Gypsy became the first Harry Potter fanfiction posted on Fanfiction.Net.

2000

On June 18, 2000, The Kiss of Life by Jack F. became the first H/D fanfiction posted on HpSlash. This was followed by the series' continuation, Winner Takes All posted on July 2, 2000.
On July 8, 2000, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was published.
On July 17, 2000, Cathryn posted Bloody Glass on HpSlash.
On July 29, 2000, Astolat posted A Weather of the Heart on HpSlash.
On October 29, 2000, After Ten Years by Izzy became the first H/D fanfiction posted on Fanfiction.Net.

2001

On January 8, 2001, Sadie Dragonfire posted Protective Bonds on Fanfiction.Net.
On July 16, 2001, Al posted Snitch (abandoned) to FictionAlley.Org. It was first posted on Fanfiction.Net sometime in January, 2001.

On July 16, 2001, Rhysenn posted Irresistible Poison on FictionAlley.Org. It was first posted to HpSlash on February 9, 2001.

Two lines of Irresistible Poison were quoted in the news article What to do about Harry Potter porn by Christopher Noxon. This article was originally posted on Inside.com in 2001, came to wider attention in Harry/Draco fandom, and was later taken up by several other online news sites. It was reprinted in the Vancouver Sun in 2002. Irresistible Poison was also quoted by the same author in Pottershots - The trouble with Harry on November 18, 2001. Noxon's conclusions about slash and the novella caused a bit of uproar in the fan community.
Sarvihaara founded the glassesreflect, a mailing list devoted to James slash and Harry slash, on November 6, 2001. The Potter Slash Archive (PSA) was created soon after. Its archive would eventually be dominated by Harry/Draco stories.
The film version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released in London on November 14, 2001.
On 19th December, 2001 the first Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy SHIP thread was started at SCUSA by Al. A number of other eager gutterpirates soon hopped aboard. Since then, G'n'H has remained one of the most popular ships in SCUSA, usually on the first page of the sub-forum.

2002

In the spring of 2002, the term "Guns & Handcuffs" was coined on SCUSA.
On April 25, 2002, the Harry/Draco role-playing game nocturne_alley moved to LiveJournal.
On May 5, 2002 the Guns & Handcuffs Official Website (now defunct) was launched.
On May 19, 2002, harrylovesdraco was created.
The film version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released worldwide on November 15, 2002.
On December 2, 2002, harrydraco was created.

2003

On February 24, 2003, a post was made on boywholives, which was followed by a post on dracolicious. This would mark the start of the whirlwind love story of boywholives and dracolicious on LiveJournal.
On March 18, 2003, Cinnamon posted A Beautiful World on FictionAlley.Org.
On April 25, 2003, Resonant posted Transfiguration on Trickster.Org.
On June 21, 2003, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was published.

2004

On February 15, 2004, hd_icons was created.
On April 17, 2004, harry_draco was created.
On May 1, 2004, the challenges for the First Wave of the Harry/Draco Fuh-Q-Fest were posted.
On May 29, 2004, hd_fic was created.
The film version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released in the UK on May 31, 2004.
On June 30, 2004, nocturne_alley ended.
On August 8, 2004, hd_falling was created for Falling-in-love themed fanworks.

On August 14, 2004, hd_directory, a directory of H/D fanwriter and fanartist bibliographies, was created.
On September 11, 2004, hd_prophet was created to provide followers with links and recommendations to everything Harry/Draco-related.
On September 27, 2004, hd_discussion was created to host Harry/Draco related discussions.

2005

On January 1, 2005, the challenges for the Second Wave of the Harry/Draco Fuh-Q-Fest were posted.
On January 13, 2005, hd_first_time was created for First-Time themed fanworks.

On February 10, 2005, hd_parseltongue was created for Parseltongue themed fanworks.

On March 9, 2005, the_eros_affair was formed as a secret gift for Cher who gave bookshop a book of sex cheques signed by Harry and Draco. The Eros Affair website went live on September 5, 2005.
On March 20, 2005, hd_ficsearch was created.

On April 12, 2005, harrydraco_recs was created.

The Big Bang Baby Challenge was a Harry/Draco challenge created in 2005 by shaggirl, Reena, and bookshop. The first Big Bang was created to "write the definitive post-OoTP Harry/Draco fic, where the boys remain boys; and keep their wands, their fists, and of course their cocks, in evidence. No sudden shifts of character, no selective back-story editing, no excuses! Just raw, real, and uncut-- the ultimate Harry vs. Draco showdown."
On June 6, 2005, harrydracompreg was created for Mpreg themed fanworks.

On June 17, 2005, Big Bang, Baby: I. The Post-OOTP Challenge was unveiled.
On July 16, 2005, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was published.
On August 21, 2005, the sign-ups for the second Big Bang were announced.
On September 6, 2005, the sign-ups for the Eros Affair: Second Wave was announced.
On September 10, 2005, the Eros Affair: Second Wave started posting.
The first Drarry definition was added to UrbanDictionary on October 1, 2005.
The film version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released worldwide on November 18, 2005.

2006

On January 30, 2006, accio_hd_fics, a Harry/Draco fanfic search community inspired by accio_rs_fics was created.
On February 14, 2006, the Big Bang, Baby Challenge: End Game was unveiled. The second Big Bang was created to "write the definitive 7th year Harry/Draco fic. As JKR's saga closes, our boys are each caught in a maelstrom, struggling to survive what will be the destruction, or the rebirth, of the Wizarding World. For six years their orbits have intersected, and their stories cannot be completed without one final, explosive confrontation."
On February 28, 2006, prompting for serpentinelion's first Secrets and Wishes Fest began.
On April 10, 2006, the sign-ups for hd_remix's first Harry/Draco Remix Challenge were announced.
On April 11, 2006, hd_angst was created for Angst themed fanworks.
