VII In Chapter 8 of the grand fiasco, the conversation implodes as the other mun is crushed under the weight of her own bullshit. Ready to go? Strap on your seatbelts, this is the biggest plummet yet!
The mun has just demonstrated enough audacity to put even a U.S. Senator to shame. Sure, she's totally entitled to play a stereotype! Not just in spite of finding them boring, and not just in spite of telling me I can't play several less offensive types of characters. She's entitled to play a stereotype of... what were her words again? OH YES.
"This is something of a given, but I definitely don't like a uke character who acts like a feminized, hormonal, castrated boy. I don't care if that's the Japanese yaoi stereotype, I hate it."
Our resident "overly feminized pretty boy" with the long hair, secret love of being roughly dominated, and PMS-like fits: Yuna. And let's not forget, he's only girly until he isn't, because we can't have Rasu failing to lust after his hot little asscakes.
Yuna is also prepared to launch into a tantrum of clawing and other stereotypically female attacks if someone dares tease him about this feminization he hates so much because, after all, he's being FORCED INTO IT.
Subtle criticism mode is GO.
Izumiz Angel: I admit it's difficult to understand why he would deliberately reinforce a stereotype he resents ^^;
[redacted]: *nods* He's weird, and I'm rather confused by his logic, as well. ;-)
Translation: I’m not even going to try to justify how full of shit I am :D
[redacted]: But now I see why he describes himself like an onion...
Izumiz Angel: The ole Shrek analogy?
[redacted]: Somewhat, actually. XD
[redacted]: I think Yuna's more like a cactus, but...
“Heh heh heh! Crap, I’ve been caught stealing another’s cleverness! Cover, cover!”
Izumiz Angel: So, when you say he crossdresses like a geisha, do you mean just dressing up like one or actually doing the whole job, with the flower arranging and tea ceremony and stuff?
[redacted]: The whole works. It's a gentleman's club, so he mostly just has to do the ceremonial stuff, but some patrons can ask for "extra services". Yuna tends to flip out at that though, and so he's rarely made to do that. ;-)
Let us note here that “extra services” in this context were never part of a geisha’s job >_>
Let us also note here that you earlier said he was a whore and kept there for sexual purposes. You’re contradicting yourself AGAIN.
[redacted]: After Yuna threw a fit that cost about $10,000 in damages, his owner decided it's pretty much not worth the trouble to force Yuna to do the extras. ;-)
[redacted]: Well, okay, that amount is an exaggeration, but you get the idea. XD
YEN. The Japanese currency is called the YEN.
Izumiz Angel: That's interesting. I would figure a greater debt would be an advantage to him, since it indebts Yuna to him all the longer and all the more severely.
[redacted]: Of course, but try telling Yuna that. XD
WILL YOU NOT TRY TO EXPLAIN EVEN ONE PIECE OF THE CONTRADICTIONS AND UTTER LACK OF LOGIC?!
Izumiz Angel: It would be rather simple I'd think o_o I mean, surely for Yuna to be in the position in the first place he'd have to understand his compromised position. Debt = servitude. Bigger debt = bigger servitude.
[redacted]: The owner doesn't want to damage Yuna, so he generally tries to avoid making Yuna throw a fit.
Oh, I know, but Yuna's temper is not an easy thing for him to control. He needs anger management classes. *sage nod*
If Yuna has so much sway in getting his way here then why is he a prisoner in the first place? Why not just go on a destructive rampage until the boss decides he doesn’t want to own him at all? Since apparently KILLING HIM for costing him so much money can't possibly be considered. Oh, and do we remember this, by chance?
"There's no need to make a character be the only "speshul" exception to something, especially when that special something is the only reason behind the character concept, and there's not much else to the character."
That was another part of the survey response.
I am just about ready to fake my kitchen being on fire, but I decide to spring for one last attempt to make her face her lies before I throw in the towel.
Izumiz Angel: I'm sorry XD I'm just feeling really confused right now.
[redacted]: How so?
Izumiz Angel: Because it says in your survey response "This is something of a given, but I definitely don't like a uke character who acts like a feminized, hormonal, castrated boy. I don't care if that's the Japanese yaoi stereotype, I hate it."
And maybe I'm totally off about this because I don't know Yuna's character well, but that's pretty much what he seems to have been described as. Hissy fitty to a point of saying it could be read as "PMSing", deliberately or unintentionally doing things that reinforce a feminized stereotype like clawing, crossdressing, very slim, having long hair, "girly mannerisms"... And a secret love of being roughly made an uke.
YES. GO ME. I called you on it AT LAST.
[redacted]: *snort* Indeed. I do love irony. ;-) Well, anything can be played badly, and that's what I hate--things like that played as just the stereotypes. Yuna is hardly castrated, physically or figuratively, and as I said, his girly stuff is mostly an act. He plays a role because it's expected of him in the situation he's in, and he's got quite a few issues besides.
1) Lose the wink. We both know you aren't REALLY amused that your BS has been called out.
2) I see you're changing your tune again. No, your words are that you hate exactly what you’re trying to play. “I don't care if that's the Japanese yaoi stereotype, I hate it.” Well, guess what, sugar? You aren’t the only one who hates it, regardless of whether it’s an act.
Really, I’m sending you one warning after another that I’m not liking this and not comfortable with it and that I really don’t want to do it, and you just won’t accept what I'm saying. AGAIN.
[redacted]: I like to think that Yuna is developed beyond the stereotypical traits he has, but I suppose one has to see him in action for a bit.
Okay, let’s just emphasize this. Yuna is DEVELOPED and LAYERED with a PERSONALITY. She's compared him to both an onion and a cactus, and says she likes to think he’s developed beyond his stereotype. She's also spent the greater half of this conversation going on about him as though she knows him as intimately as she knows herself.
[redacted]: I was mostly kidding about the fighting part, for humor value. :-P
Izumiz Angel: What's he like when he's real?
From the survey: "I think the best advice for making a "unique" character would be to develop the personality first, and decide whether they prefer "top" or "bottom" later, if at all."
From earlier in the chat, in reference to Yuna: "It figures that my first uke in too long would be kinky. *mock grumbles*"
[redacted]: His inner self? Hmm...he loves to draw and paint, and he's got the heart of an artist. He considers himself a poet, but...he's rather horrible at it. XD *ponders* What else...he's really not easy to figure out, because he has layer upon layer of acts and habits.
Izumiz Angel: No, I mean how does he behave when he's not doing that "act"?
[redacted]: Rasu would really have to get to know Yuna very well to ever see his "true self", but basically, he's someone who would like very much to have a normal relationship with someone...a person who'd want to be friends with him, and not want to use him because they want something from him.
[redacted]: *head scratch* It does sound very typical. :-\ I'm better at playing than telling.
Izumiz Angel: You're still not answering my question ;_; I'm not asking what he likes or what he wants, I'm asking how he behaves differently.
And this is a simple clarification to an already simple question!
...That I'm giving for the second time in a row!
[redacted]: Well, that's the thing...he behaves...normally, I guess. It's not so much a change, but he's calmer, more relaxed, and will occasionally spout a random nonsensical theory about something.
NORMALLY is the only description you can give?! Thanks, that’s REALLY HELPFUL. Nice and descriptive!
[redacted]: His acts tend to be defensive and snippy, or aggressive and caustic, whereas his "real" self tends to be more...thoughtful, I guess.
[redacted]: Less prone to fly into a rage and stuff.
I really wouldn’t think it that deep a dive, or that difficult a question, to ask what a character’s true personality is. Am I wrong about this somehow? His true personality... normal, thoughtful, artistic, calmer... I don’t know. Maybe I’m expecting too much.
Izumiz Angel: Normal is different for everyone :/ That's what's difficult about this.
[redacted]: *nods* I'm not that great at describing stuff. :-X
[redacted]: I'm better at showing through playing him, because then he tends to open up more. When I'm prodding him OOC, he doesn't like cooperating.
Izumiz Angel: I thought the ability to describe things well was important to you :x
[redacted]: :-P Yes, but I haven't played Yuna yet. :-X I can't get deep into his head without exploring his character IC.
So what was all this babbling on about him you've done? Come on, just admit you’re bullshitting everything. You have no consistency and can’t explain a single thing when pressed. First you say Yuna's totally developed with layers upon layers of depth, which is what's enabled you to ramble incessantly about all these character details and take confidence in your ability to play this second character that-- remember-- you can't play if you have to develop two at once.
But now that you actually have to try to BACK that claim of development you're saying he ISN'T developed and that's why you can't tell me anything about his true self. You know what it means when your character doesn't have a personality beyond the superficial byproduct of an angsty background? It means
HE'S A STU. Yuna is either fleshed out and developed or he isn’t, now stop talking out of both sides of your mouth and PICK ONE.
It's finally become too much even for me. Next post, the final attempt at maturity and reason.
